Hello!

I'm a j-1 student now, about 2 apply 4 changing status 2 f-1. But my employee wants 2 help me and she (my GM) is trying 2 start the process of applying 4 a green card 4 me. How hard is it 4 a big company 2 help with getting a green card? Is it expensive?

Thanx everyone who helps me!

They cannot just apply for a greencard for you. You need to decide if you want to study (F1 visa) or work. If you want to work, there are several different work visas, depending on the type of work. With some of them, the employer can sponsor you for a greencardafter several years.

ditto, if you apply for a F1 student visa, you have to study full time, you can only work 20 hours or less a week and on campus. you cannot work elsewhere, that's why you are your own sponsor, or someone has the money to sponsor you, pay for your tuition, expenses, housing, transportation, food, so you are able to be a full-time student.

An Employer can sponsor you directly for a Green Card.

Boiler - I am not sure how that would work in the this particular case, normally an employeer can apply for G, but in Lana's case fisr she has to be be employeed by the sponsoring company, which has to be on H1B.

as a student Lana would not be allowed to work off the campus and hence without being employeed by the company they cannot apply for GC.

H is a temporary visa often used as a stop gap due to long delays in the EB3 category..

Boiler - I have never heard of any temp extension of H type visa.

Anyway Lana does not have the H1 at the moment so not sure how your last comment would help.

She is looking for her employeer to file for GC while she is on F1, which I think is not possible.
