My husband and I have been married for over a year, and I'm just getting around to taking his last name. He's already gotten his temporary green card and all that.

My question is: do I have to send notification of my new name to U.S.C.I.S.? Or is it enough to just change it with the Social Security Admin. and assume that the USCIS will figure it out?

Thanks!

If I understand it right you're the US citizen and your husband is the alien? If so then I don't think it matters all all - he's the one that really matters. Even if it were reversed I dunno if it matters or not, hopefully someone else will know!

I can't see any reason why the U.S. citizen spouse would need to notify immigration of her name change. In fact you don't even need to change it with SSA as long as you continue to work and file taxes under the pre-married name. In most states you will also need to keep the same name for your driver's license too.
