Resident traveling to other countries - Visas!

Is it easier to get Visas for other countries now that I'm a resident?

For instance, to travel to Costa Rica, I need a Visa (as a South African resident) but my wife doesn't.

This is a pain. Have any good news for me? :)

You're still a citizen of South Africa and since you will be traveling with a South African passport, you will still need the same visas that you would've before. You're a merely a permanent resident and not a USC, so nothing changes, apart from traveling to Mexico and Canada, which I think, you can use your GC to cross. Someone will provide more information.

You still travel as a citizen of your home country. That being said many embassies look at who else as given you visas in making their decision. Having a visa/greencard from the US is frequently worth tons of bonus points in the decision process. You have to apply but you are probably going to get more positive responses.

This will not be over quickly. You will not enjoy this.

short answer is "nope" (but in practice, you may be put through less runaround)

Costa Rica does not require a visa if you have a US Green card and your stay does not exceed 90 days. Here is an online website I use to give you information of about visa and passport requirements:
