Morning!!! Hope every1 enjoyed there holiday. Mine was well spent. My grandparents moved to Florida this morning. I'm so sad. So used to grandma asking for a ride somewhere. Anyhow, I told her I will see her in March. Grandpa was so ready. All he kept talking about was doing yard work. Then grandma would say, T, stop talking nonsense. Any work inna di yard fi do!

What a couple. They will be missed here in NY.

As far as myself, this wkend was something. I suffer from "weird" allergies, as I call it. For no reason @ all I will have hives on my face, legs, & arms. On the severe end, my lips & tongue would swell & my throat will begin to close. Well low & behold, my throat began to swell to the point where it almost closed. Now usually in the past, I'd take Benadryl or get steroid shots @ alergist. I also have something call an EpiPen in csse of throat closure. I used none of the above b/c of this pregnancy. I kept coughing, rapid breathing, swallowing nonstop & drinking fluids. I all had to rest on 4 damn pillows b/c when I was flat, I experienced the difficulty breathing. Mind you for the past two years my allergies have been under control.

Well I plan to see allergist 2day to see if I may take Benadryl. I did my reading & it claims to not have an affect on baby. I however will consult ob gyn & allergist 1st.

Experiencing these things makes me wonder how the hell I'm going to survive in JA for the holidays! I was truly miserable & uncomfortable. Only heaven knows, I guess

Lol at your grandma saying there's no work to be done.

But why didn't you go to the ER??

That's why I'm scared to go while I'm pregnant because I love Jamaica to mi heart but when it comes to their medical system, I don't want to have a cold and be there. SMDH. I hope all goes well though and makesure you're not missing any appointments while you're there.

I wonder how's Always :star:

KJ, usually when I go to ER, they give me intravenous high dose Benadryl. & trust me as that reach your blood stream, instantly you want to sleep. Plus I hate being there all day. I just tried drinking mad ginger T & basically hot stuff. As the day went by my throat felt a bit better, my blocked nostril cleared, & I felt some relief. It's a real serious issue though & I'm sure both drs are going to say I shouldve gone. With the epi pen, I prbly shld have used it. That's a pen/needle that has epinephrine(adrenalin) & it would have given me relief. Thing is I just kept saying it will affect baby.

KJ, is the test you're doing 2mrrw called an ultra screen or amniocentesis?

I'm familiar with what a epipen is, what I do is keep the print of all my medications and see if it will affect the baby. If I don't have the print out from the pharmacy, I'lllook up the medication online, usually at the manufacture's website, which is the most accurate info than even what the doctor says because they're not pharmacists. Next time you can even call your pharmacists and ask.

No, its called Chorionic villus sampling (cvs) and it's similar to a amniocentesis except that it's performed earlier, it can be done transvaginal or abdominal and it has a higher risk of miscarriage since it's being done earlier, It can be done between 11-13 wks and amnios are done 16-20 wks if I'm not mistaken. But they use a needle to take a sample of the baby's dna.

I won't know if I'll have the procedure done vaginal or abdominal until tomorrow when I do the ultrasound to see where the baby and placenta is.

On the 17th I do an ultra screen. It apears to be a detailed ultra sound w/numerous pictures & I believe some bloodwork is drawn. I just hope for the best throughout the whole pregnancy.

Thank you!

oh ok, that's a first trimester screening, to look at the nose bone ond the bone in the back of the baby's neck to detect chromosomal defects, if the bone doesn't seem normal then they'll do procedures like the cvs and or amnio.

Exactly what dr said!!! Lol. I heard "pictures of baby".

My test is something fairly new. I say that b/c 7yrs ago when I had my son, I didn't do this test. If I'm not mistaken the dr stated in the past they did lots of bloodwork to detect whatever it is this ultrascreen may show.

Mawnin Mo/KJ

Mo -- I took Benadryl a lot when I was pregnant it was part of the treatment plan for my severe morning sickness which was so bad I only gained 3lbs. I was also in Jamaica when I was pregnant 5 months for a funeral and it was around April the only thing I could eat was patty, cocobread, bullah and pear -- everything else as soon as I smell it I got severely sick. I have to keep a EpiPen for my son been using it since he was 6 months old and thank God I've only had to use it twice because of his allergies to peanuts which he's outgrown. I would check all those symptoms out before I travel just to make sure something else is not going on -- otherwise have a great trip.

KJ -- prayers with you and positive vibes at the doc.

Trelawny, trust me I see ob gyn Thursday & I have my list plus a reminder in phone if I by chance forget to ask my all my questions. I may be same way in JA. I'm fretting already. It's Xmas & friends are already hyping up the fact that there will be nuff parties. Wait until they see me in the house wrap up in bed or sitting on veranda waving to them on the road. I'm really not in the mood & I just don't want to get sick in JA especially w/my allergies. Just imagine a blasted wasp stinging/biting me. It's a distance to nearest hospital. Anyhow as I've been telling hubby, I'm relaxing! No sporting or stage shows this trip. Straight relaxation if @ all possible.

My allergies as I said are weird. It was 1st noted after I had my son. It was said I'm allergic to shrimp not iodine but shrimp. Now mind you, I LOVE SHRIMP but I had 3 severe reactions to it. I've eaten fruits & instantly face, lips, & tongue began to swell. Overall doctors seemed not to be able to pinpoint it. They just say I have an auto immune disorder & chronic hives condition. 2yrs ago or more I fasted & changed my diet for like a month, I was a vegetarian so call. After that period my allergies appeared to subside. I even went back to eating shrimp & had no reaction. So as I keep saying weird allergies that just flare up @ any time which is real annoying & also scary.

Aaahh that's how I was -- as much as I love fried fish and bammy I couldn't stand the smell of it and my uncles would fry it in the back yard and the smell would just travel tot he top house I would have to leave from my dad's house and walk around to my grandmother's house...she would rub mint in her hands and put it over my nose to stop me from gagging

Yes, it is new but mandatory in some stats and optional in some.
