How does anyone in their right that is not in the top 20% support policies that don't benefit their own families, friends and themselves?

They just love them crumbs.

Greater DC and Greater NY are not "isolated pockets" They're more like the bulk of the human population on the east coast.

There are humans in DC?

Neither NYC, Phili, Baltimore, Newark or DC is anything to write home about. While the area contains people that are very wealthy, the vast majority of people [the norm] are poor and living in squalor, when compared to their Canadian or Australian equivalents. The area also ranks poorly for Q.O.L; which unlike a certain turtle, I am sure you are smart enough to understand the importance and relevance of such a ranking.

According to the Internal Revenue Service, the 400 richest American households earned a total of $US138 billion, up from $US105 billion a year earlier. That's an average of $US345 million each, on which they paid a tax rate of just 16.6 per cent.

I too can play this game. What were the salaries of the CEO and executives of MCI, countrywide and Enron?

Do you not see the difference between private industry and the public sector?

There are no salary caps for private businesses because they are not spending your or my money.

What about the billion dollar bonuses paid out by corporations that are receiving bailouts to survive?

Those are just as fraudulent. Any corporation that receives taxpayer dollars is a welfare institution and should be subject to the same rules as any other government entity.

I find your rank specieism to be in poor taste and contemptible.

It all comes down to this, many are too prideful to admit that in terms if wealth and quality of life for the average Joe America, their equivalents in other countries are doing much better. Don' even realize that while the middle class is growing elsewhere, it is dying here. While other countries are modernizing, the US is falling apart. Sure, the pockets of wealthy areas are fantastic, but what about the rest of America - the 97%. It's a bloody joke.

Take NY and Jersey as an example, most folks with attitude and pride, basically assume they are the ######, don't even realize they are dirt poor. How many of them can honestly afford the down-payment on a home in Sydney, Melbourne, or Vancouver - none. I think this is all a ploy by the wealthy though, to keep the poor ignorant and naive. Up there, they have actually made you guys believe attitude equals wealth.

A housing bubble is nothing to be proud of.

Probably anyone who owns a home in NJ. You can't buy anything decent in NJ for less than $500k.

Since the government means me, I want the best working for me. Unlike many here, I don't demand the government be paid peanuts and then complain about the service or quality. I don;t look down on them and laugh in good times, when I get pay rise after bonus, while they receive 1/6 my salary. Then get angry in hard times, because they still have jobs.

Considering 80% are the majority, they should demand they be paid a fair wage. Demand that jobs not be exported, without any repercussions, to save a dime. You close down an operation to go to India, then you have to pay three years severance. You deliberately bankrupt or neglect a company, then your personal assets get sold off.

There are more people in trailers and ghettos than Marks. Once these people wake up, they start voting more logically, like a Mark. Basically, voting for what's in their best interest too. As the 15% keeps on dropping to 14, 13 and eventually 10, and their international equivalents become wealthier, they'll smarten up.

If I was the dictator of USA, I would extend Bush's tax cuts across the board with a few tweaks on the lower end and then add a whole new tier at 50% for 1mil+. Then I would cut corp. tax by 1/5 or so.

Interesting idea, but who is going to be paying for them tax cuts? Good luck with adding a new tier for the 1mil+ because they will just move their money into offshore accounts and hide their wealth. The budget is already running in the red, and it makes no sense to throw away money we dont have. And it is also unfair that our kids will be paying for it in the future just because we wanted to have our cake and eat it too. And corperations shaft us enough, I dont think they deserve any kind of tax break
