According to the Internal Revenue Service, the 400 richest American households earned a total of $US138 billion, up from $US105 billion a year earlier. That's an average of $US345 million each, on which they paid a tax rate of just 16.6 per cent.

What kills me is that there are 248,000,000 Americans in the bottom 80% and many actually support tax cuts [subsidizing] the top 20%. Yet like slaves, the bottom 80% are competing for their puny share of 15% of the wealth - the crumbs basically.

How does anyone in their right that is not in the top 20% support policies that don't benefit their own families, friends and themselves? Then again, this is the land of denial, so I am sure most of the 80% think they are in the top 20%.

I have to hand it to the wealthy here, they have really pulled the rug over the 80% and kept them naive and fighting one another for the crumbs.

The tax system is a progressive tax with the wealthy contribute a huge proportion of revenue with nothing from the bottom 50%.

We could increase increase our high corporate taxes and strangle businesses further but I'd sooner have a functioning economy.

If you think your life will improve only after soaking the rich, I guess it has some merit. The reality is the government is growing as the expense of the private sector so you should be elated with our present state of affairs.

Exactly how do intend to get the wealthy's money through an income tax? It taxes income not accumulated wealth.

i think your numbers are wrong. you are counting children and i don't think you should since they really have nothing.

as far as the naive claim, it is the same or much much much worse all over the world. in a lot of countries that are supposedly democratic, power and thus wealth has been held by the same families for centuries in some countries, decades in others.

Thats way too low. In some areas of the country 200k for a couple is not much money.

I thought that was the point, he was being sarcastic because he knows that's the case. I could be wrong.

Doesn't mean such a thing couldn't be adjusted accordingly though, because it is a lot in places like Georgia.

You want to know who has the money in the USA?

These guys (aka government workers):

That's one city, not the norm.

I too can play this game. What were the salaries of the CEO and executives of MCI, countrywide and Enron? What about the billion dollar bonuses paid out by corporations that are receiving bailouts to survive?

For anyone to even attempt to make that argument from NYC is laughable.
