Is he an older dog? My Mom's old dog used to chew and lick his feet and "ankles" all the time and we thought it was allergies or a skin condition. Her vet used to prescribe all kinds of creams and shots for it. Eventually he started limping and we realized he actuallly had pain in his feet that was why he couldn't leave it alone. Do you know for sure its allergies?

does your dog have runny eyes???

I took my dog over to the USA last year from the tropics. His first winter with inside heating really messed him up. He was constantly licking his paws, but what he was actually doing was lubricating them to rub his eyes. His coat was dry and itchy also, having been used to a humid climate previously. We bought a spray on dry shampoo with lubricating products and tea tree and put regular eyedrops in his eyes, and some kind of fish oil type tablet. He did much better. This past spring he went nuts again with all the new pollens he's never experienced before, same treatment helped him.

A friend also told me that anti-dandruff shampoo worked on her dogs who had itchy skin.

That happened to my dog sometimes too but I found out that it's because if her feet get wet or humid the hair on her feet and between the toes won't dry well... which leads to fungus... which iches like a MotherF$%! So Maybe that's why your dog bites and licks her feet.

My cousin is a vet.... I'll ask him about what to do in that case!

An "E" collar / short for Elizabethian Collar , can be used to help prevent more biting and snawing at the area. This gives the area time to heal and get pass that "itchy" feeling. You can use an anti-itch spray/ hot spot spray to help reduce the itchy feeling. Also I believe cleaning her feet after being outside will really help. Usually these seasonal allergies are associated with something in the environment. Hope you find a solution soon!

Oh my goodness, I really hope it's just allergies. That's what the vet said. She is a BIT older (7) but the itching, while mostly in her feet, seems to also be all over. If we pat her she starts wiggling her leg (sign of being tickled). So, now I don't know. I'm also trying to convince everyone else she needs to go back to the vet.

If it's anything like past years, it should be over in a few weeks.

Wow VJ is awesome. Everyone is so helpful about the most random stuff. Yay.

edit: I'm also going to try washing her feet when she comes inside

try those wet wipes for pets maybe rather than full on feet bathing. They'll just wipe off the dirt and pollen, without soaking.

My cat has some allergies, some sort of black little spot on the skin. Appearing on the legs, stomach, ### this time

I took her to the vet, she gave her a shot and shaved the hotspot, she then told me to clean the hotspot twice a day with a chlorexidine spray and then apply a dermatologic spray (Prednisolone and hexetidine).

I bought a cone so she won't lick, she hates it but her skin gets better.

I will pick these up at PetSmart on my way home maybe then. But what if she gets that stuff on her paws and then licks them? Is that safe?

Yes it is made for pets, should be just fine. Do look for a non itching spray such as the one I recommended earlier, the one I use containes pramoxine HCI.
