Most people on VJ are too immature to discuss this, Mags.

My opinion is that most people are ashamed to masturbate, or admit they masturbate, because of their religious upbringing. I was raised Catholic and we were taught that self pleasuring is a sin. A lot of these really conservative Christian get freaky about masturbation.

I think there are many who are capable of having this discussion, but I really don't see this thread seriously taking off in the personal sharing way, because it's of a very personal nature, and I don't see many VJers being open to this discussion.

Or it can go another way:

- let's bash organized religion.

- let's brag about how great our sex lives are. Cos we r teh hotness!

- let's call those who don't want to talk about it either ashamed, repressed, prudish, etc.

Or we could try to have a reasoned discussion. There have been a few people posting so far who seem capable of doing this. :)

I wonder more about what it says about female sexuality and vestigial remnants of the concept of bride as property that some women feel that what is permissible before marriage is somehow forbidden after a ring is on their finger. Do they feel that their property -- in the form of their person -- has transferred to their husband? That that person somehow holds dominion over their desires?

For some, it is a role change. That is what you simply do when you get married. Much like how a girlfriend or fiance will take a facial, but after that ring comes on, only respectable sex is permitted.

Nice, Rob. Really raising the tenor of things around here.

I learned something from this thread. I had no idea there are women who don't masturbate when they marry - I mean specifically for that reason - that's pretty odd behaviour in my opinion.

Refusing to use the spellchick!

I have put you on ignore. No really, I have, but you are still ruining my enjoyment of this site. .

I do what I can :D

Back on topic though. I know this is meant more for a woman's perspective, but I think there are some universal trends. I know for me personally, I had the church saying that it was bad to masturbate, and school saying that it was natural. My parents never addressed the topic, so I figured it out myself. I can remember in high school, and even university that there was still a stigma attached to wanking. Aparently, if you are wanking, then you are less of a man and unable to get a girl to have sex with you. I know that prevents a lot of guys from openly discussing it or admitting to frequently doing it.

I didn't know about it either until I started reading some of the regional sub-forums.

Well said.

As someone who has never been the marrying type, it's hard for me to wrap my mind around the idea that women would give up twiddling the bean just because they signed on the dotted line. What, is hubby going to duct-tape oven mitts to wifey's hands so she can't get waggle her fingers in "his" pink pie?

(Can't believe my first post in these venerable forums is in a thread about rubbing one out!)

It's pretty odd to try to repress all sexual urges. I do understand the idea of limiting the number of partners you have sex with for all kinds or reasons, but I can't think of one good reason not to masturbate either for health or social reasons.
