First I have asked a similar question with not as much commentary so forgive me we live in Kentucky but since arriving in the states from the Philipines and handing over the cd to local Health Dept we find ourselves having to take medication due to my wife having to stay and extra two months in the Phillipines for a small scar found on her lungs so they tell its protocol that she takes the medication for 40 consecutive days and then new x rays to see if there is any difference thats fine. She is 50 years old but now we have been thru a complete physical and now require more test beginning to get expensive but thats fine if it make her ok if you know what I mean Can anyone tell us the protocol of other states we feel were being singled out but want to know other states procedure on this matter Your help would be greatly appreciated I hope I have explained this clearly and forgive me if not

thanks and God Bless

The "scar found on her lung" may have been, but sounds like it was pulmonary Tuberculosis (TB), has no age limit young or old can get infected!

What is the medication (Isoniazid)? Many states require individuals to take meds for TB and for Latent TB your not being singled out. As for our state, Hawaii Dept. of Health will ask you to take medication for 9 months with only non-active 'Latent TB' check your local Health Dept. each state varies.

The local health department will take a disease like PTB seriously because it is easly transferable. I am not a medical expert, but things come to mind.

1. Did your wife/fiancee go through a sputum test in Manila St Lukes during her medical?

This test should have cleared her of any active infection.

2. Did the health clinic perform a TST skin test on your wife/fiancee?

A TST test shows a false positive of anyone that has had a BCG vaccination.

This link exlains how the philippine immigrants have a high rate of PTB.
