I don't think anyone is saying the Church has been right in their dealings. Like any organization run by man it cane be corrupted. That doesn't mean there is no God.

Many scientists in history have been religious. The two do not have be at odds. Newton interpreted the bible literally but Lord Infamous is smarter than he.

I think Einstein (another retard compared to Lord Infamous) sums it up best, "Science without religion is lame, religion without science is blind."

I am actually not interested in whether there is a god. People take their sides and that is that and always will be and it's no good trying to convince anyone because all minds are closed.

What I am interested in is the churches, as run by people who act in an evil way. We all know about the priests and the shiny suited telly evangelists and the people who burned scientists at the stake. I am anti these organizations first.

The issue of whether there is a god is irrelevant if the people who say there is a god stop acting in a cruel and corrupt way

In other words my beef isn't with god - its with the people who claim they are his servants while committing evil and tithe the pants off the gullible

I don't think I mentioned Hitler now did I?

Just about any south american cia supported fascist dictator would be a christian

You know that is fine. I totally agree with that. I am not particularity happy with things the Church has done or fail to correct.

Oh sorry, didn't see this.

Yes well I was thinking of Mussolini. He was a self-proclaimed atheist who considered religion a disease of the psyche, and accused Christianity of promoting resignation and cowardice. He was a bit of Nietzsche fan.

Hitler is always a tough one to deal with because he seemed all over the place in religious views. Even the Waffen-SS which was supposed to be anti-religious had many Christians in it including Felix Steiner if I remember right.

Given the large percentage of the population of Europe who are non believers, I look forward to the day when a Prime Ministerial candidate has the guts to announce themselves as such

The lowest birthrate in Europe is catholic Italy - so what's all that about ?

I worked with 300 people and only a handful went to church. It's a different world in Europe. Even in the USA, the fastest growing religious conviction category is 'non-religious'

It's a one way street from here as the next age of enlightenment dawns....

The US will be after Iran but before Saudi

Given the large percentage................

You may be correct. I think a lot of the problem is that people are as you said disgusted with the organized religions failings

It's funny you mention religion considering close to an estimated 94 million people have been killed by the ultra atheists system of government known as communism. Approx 20 million ended up 'MIA' in the Soviet Union alone. To put it in perspective, more than all of the Jews killed in WWII.

According to the Internal Revenue Service, the 400 richest American households earned a total of $US138 billion, up from $US105 billion a year earlier. That's an average of $US345 million each, on which they paid a tax rate of just 16.6 per cent.

What will happen is that they will flat-out deny it. Unless some see a God and have God prove his power, the will refuse to accept anything.

Why would I believe there's an invisible man in the sky despite the utter lack of evidence?

The more extraordinary the claim, the more extraordinary the evidence has to be to support the claim.

Are you suggesting that Joe Stalin killed 94 million of his own people ? He was responsible for many deaths but 94 million is stretching it

MIA - does this mean 'Missing in action'. If it does, it implies the war against the Fascists which was carried out with huge loss of Russian (Communist) (Atheist) life while the yanks were handing out nylons to loose women in London.

The Americans have a lot to thanks the communist, atheist Russians for.

How come it's ok for the British Colonists in America to have a revolution and set up their own government, but it's not OK for the communist, atheist people in Russia to have a revolution and set up their own government ?

For clarification, I am addressing the historic issue only, as personally, I am a successful capitalist

What will happen is that they will flat-out deny it. Unless some see a God and have God prove his power, the will refuse to accept anything. It's no different to politics really but beliefs are way more entrenched in people. The more one pushes, the deeper the others get entrenched.

What gets me about atheist is their zeal to kill religious beliefs, waste of time really. I don't believe in Islam or Hindu Gods, but I sure don't waste my time going round battling everyone who does.

I have no interest in squashing anyone's belief - I have made that abundantly clear - people can believe in whatever they want to - the only thing I disagree with is allowing religious morality to infringe on public life - it should not .

However, you proposed the argument that our universe is so complicated that it could not have come about accidentally. This is however a nonsensical argument and does not prove that god must exist - which was your proposition. My contention is that with what evidence we do have, ie the physical and natural laws currently preclude the possibility of omnipotence - water can't be turned directly into wine, lead can't be turned into gold, people can't be brought back to life once they are brain dead - the laws that govern our reality are not changeable at the whim of some deity - it is that simple. What that tells the scientist (and it is universally understood to be so) is that the idea of there being a 'god' in the conventional sense of the word (an entity that has power and influence on the human condition in a way that is positive and negative without prejudice) is impossible.

Refusing to use the spellchick!

I have put you on ignore. No really, I have, but you are still ruining my enjoyment of this site. .

sorry sir.

yes, that is the correct word.'theory' i'm still waiting for proof myself. until then i'm with the rest of the world, leaning on faith & what i was raised to believe.

No problem, I should of known better.

Exactly, theory is the correct word and unfortunately a lot of people dont even question it and accept it as the truth.

"Some" scientific proof?

There's plenty of scientific proof - completely different methods (observational evidence,

radiometric dating, globular clusters, etc) confirming the same thing.

Ah the word game. As I told your cohort theres no need to play the games the message was clear.

Do you realize that theres more questions to the Big Bang Theory than answers. I think its naive and way to early in the game to assume The Big Bang theory to be correct.

Or at least highly improbable.
