hey everyone,

I am Canadian Citizen and my husband is US citizen. I received my interview date last year in December for January 28, 2010 but I had to reschedule it because my due date was January 29, 2010. We sent them an email regarding the situation and got the reply in February from the Visa department that they will reschedule the date and it will take 2-5 months. It has been almost 6 months and we haven't heard anything from them. I called the Visa department in US and they told me that your file is in the US embassy in Montreal and they haven't reschedule your interview date yet and they are very busy so just wait. Please let me know what should i do? its very difficult situation for us because we are living separately from last 6 months. how long does it take to reschedule the interview date? we didn't have any choice except reschedule the date :(

thanks

You have to co-ordinate with NVC and Canada U.S Consulate to get new schedule. IMO, I don't see any other options. Try calling and emailing to both everyday. Also, attach the baby's birth certificate for the proof of re-schedule.

Have hubby immigrate to Canada!!! Or have your husband contact his senator and ask for help - it helped our case along, until my husband got mugged (passport stolen) on his way to interview. :)

Unfortunately Montreal is seriously backlogged for interviews. You will find many filers in the Canada forum waiting as well. I do recall one other filer that had to reschedule from the beginning of the year and is still waiting. :(

If I'm reading you 'correctly' -

it smells like the IV unit is waiting for you to contact them again, and ask for new interview date.

Sometimes my language usage seems confusing - please feel free to 'read it twice', just in case !

Sadly, this seems to be a consulate specific situation as Montreal is terribly backlogged. Anywhere else, the interivew would be resheduled within a few months. But Montreal can take MANY months to reschedule an interview. I'm sorry for your situation

Good luck

I called NVC and also sent them an email and they replied me back

Dear Sir/Madam:

Your inquiry has been received at the National Visa Center (NVC). Please direct your inquiry(ies) to the assigned US Embassy or Consulate General.

Sincerely,

Maya

National Visa Center

I have sent many emails to US embassy in montreal but haven't heard anything back from them. This is the auto response, i received whenever I sent them an email.

"Thank you for your message to the Immigrant Visa (IV) unit of the U.S. Consulate General in Montreal, Canada. Please note that due to the volume of messages received, you may expect a reply to your inquiry within two weeks.

there is no contact number available...I also called the number where they charged on credit card but the lady told me that they can only help for the non immigrant visa.

Good! Forward this NVC message with the proof of child birth (reason for re-schedule) such as copy of the birth certificate etc. to the Embassy again.

Keep on trying until you get a positive response from them.

No, sorry. You cannot call the embassy because there is no way to.

Best thing would be to have the USC contact the senator or congressman to find out what's going on. Sadly, this is common in Montreal

Good luck

thanks everyone!!!

what do u guys think about consulting with the lawyer and find out if the lawyer can expedite my interview date?

thanks

Rosey, that is not a bad idea at all!

Though I personally don't recommend the lawyer for straighforward immigration matters, sometimes lawyers (good ones!) are really helpful to handle complex matters that are beyond our control.

It is worth to spend some money for a good lawyer in your case.

Good luck!

I agree with OBX - you're dealing with Montreal and honestly, a lawyer cannot speed up the procedures any. You can try, but you might be just simply wasting your money

Hang tight, I'm sorry that you seem to be in the Montreal Void.
