Juarez consulate closed

I just received noticiation on 26 July that my fiance has an open appt at the Juarez consulate. Then on 29July the Juarez consulate was closed pending a security review. Has anyone heard what will happen for visa interviews pending in Mexico particularly K1s that are open appointments!?

Since K-1 filers get an open invitation letter for Juarez, we do not really need to do anything but wait. As soon as they re-open, you can schedule to go there at a time that is convenient for you.

On that note, I too am hoping they re-open soon. We were hoping for my fiance to go for his interview by the end of this month. If they do not stay closed too long, it is still quite do-able.

There is a rumor they may re-open tomorrow so I guess we just have to wait and see. I will keep my fingers crossed that once we book planet ticket there that they stay open!

Just be sure to arrive during the daylight. If you are arriving from El Paso, it takes about 45 minutes, with a quick stop at the border on the Mexican side. Coming back to El Paso from any of the hotels near the consulate you need to allow about 2.5 hours, and sitting in line in traffic at the border isn't so fun, but it's generally OK.

If you are the USC, you can't go into the medical. You have to wait on the sidewalk. If you don't mind pickups with mounted machine-guns and troops in the back patrolling every 20 minutes or so, then you should be fine. I just think they are magnets for attention. If your fiance(e) is applying for a K1, the USC will have to wait outside the consulate.

The alternative is to walk your fiance(e) to the medical/consulate and then return to the hotel to wait. There are several just a two minute walk... Holiday Inn, Microtel and others.
