Do you have to receive first the bio appointment and then the interview letter, or could it be the other way round?

You can be transferred to CSC before getting a bio appointment but I haven't seen anyone get an interview appointment b4 a bio appointment. :halloween:

Hi, yah on your SSN card it's stamped not eligible to work without authorization, therefore, the employer will request to see the authorization before allowing you to work for them as they can get in trouble as well.

well thank you for response. yes when they see my social security card, they will see that i am not eligible to work right now. but what i'm asking is; is there any system that employers can check if the applicants are eligible to work or not? i mean before calling for an interview, can they see through our ssn that we have a work permit or not?

Also just wanted to add (and it seems like same for other people) that the USCIS website doesn't list any of our case numbers on their website yet... (although we've received the letter from them and etc.).

updated 10/5/2010:

Hi folks,

Finally got around to posting our timeline (for my wife)... here it goes:

8/16/2010 - Interview in Montreal for K1

8/17/2010 - Pick up visa in Montreal

8/17/2010 - (later that day) enter US at US/Canadian Border (NY)

8/21/2010 - Got married

8/24/2010 - mail I-485, I-765, I-131 to USCIS Chicago Lockbox

8/25/2010 - Package received (via UPS) at USCIS Chicago. Signed for by "Bush"

9/01/2010 - receive email from Lockbox that application was accepted and routed to the National Benefits Center

9/07/2010 - received hard copy of acknowledgement letters from USCIS

9/10/2010 - received appointment letter for fingerprinting on 9/20/2010

9/14/2010 - sent letter to US Senator (from NY) to help expedite EAD processing, as my wife has a potential job offer

9/16/2010 - applied for (and received) Social Security

9/20/2010 - Fingerprinting Appointment

10/5/2010 - checked USCIS website (actually checked almost every day)

10/5/2010 - EAD sent for production

10/5/2010 - AP sent for production

Does anyone know how long it takes to receive the AP and EAD documents once they are sent for production?

Thanks,

Vinay

I would say NO because when you apply to a job you don't give them your SSN. On the other hand, especially in online applications, they ask about your eligibility to work in the US.

hmmm actually i was about to fill in an application for a job, and it does ask for ssn, that's why i wonder if it is possible to see (by checking the ssn) if someone is eligible to work..

Personally I wouldn't write my SSN in a job application online: they may be able to check your employment eligibility, but they may also do a bunch of nasty things with it.

They won't get your SSN until after the job offer (typically), and if they participate in e-Verify, they can verify your status even if your card is not in hand. However, if you've been approved and your card's not arrived, I would just say that you can't start for two more weeks, which should be enough time for your card to arrive.

Marie, VJ gives estimates if you fill in your timeline here.
