Yippee!! We successfully attempted a walk-in for Biometrics today at the Taylorsville ASC. They were extremely helpful and let us right in. There were four of us (hubby, two sons and myself) so I almost expected to be turned away. But the place was entirely empty. The center here is so much less intimidating than I thought it would be - just a simple large room and office type setup. We were the only people there and it took less than 30 min for all of us to be processed. My husband talked with the lady who took his fingerprints and she told him that we had just missed the rush. She mentioned that all appointments are on the hour so you have a much better chance of getting in if you arrive at 15 or 20 minutes to or past the hour. We got there at 1:15 today (a Friday) and were out of there by 1:45pm. If anyone is considering a walk-in, I'd say do it! Totally unintimidating and nothing at all to be nervous about - honestly.

That's wonderful news! Hope you have smooth sailing from now on  The appointments by the hour explain why it takes so long to be scheduled for biometrics sometimes, but people actually still do walk-ins.

Oh well... victory dance time!

My EAD Card arrived in the mail today :) So - a total of 45 days from mailing the documents, and 30 days from NOA text/email.

But - I presume I need to have a social security card to have a Driver's license issued. I went to the SSA Office, and was informed it may take 2-3 weeks if there is no verification required, or otherwise a total of 4-6 weeks. Does anyone know more about this? And is there a way I can get my driver's license without a SSN?

Any advice would be great! Thanks.

yes there is! I didn't have mine right away.....go to your local DL Office and tell them your situation and ask what exactly you need.....or look it up on the driver's license website for your state.

Still haven't gotten my biometrics appointment and for some random reason only my I-130 and I-765 are showing up on the USCIS case status.

Anybody having similar problems?

This waiting is driving me crazy!!!!

Found this posting from another VJ member, I keep saying to stop worrying about the website and just focus on getting your things in the mail!

I thought i would just reiterate how unreliable the information on the USCIS case update system is..

On friday i recevied my EAD and AP, the funny thing is that my AP has no touches at all, the last date was on the day it was recevied and since then there has been nothing at all.

Yet, it is now in my hand approved, with the scariest looking picture of me i have ever seen :-) I am worried they might not let me back in looking at that picture, the CBP will probably want to lock me in a cage and send me for scientific testing.

Well anyway my adivce to anyone is take whatever the website says with a pinch, or bucket, of salt.

LOL you're sooo right! actually, i had the same situation, today i got my second card production order for my EAD but i didnt have any touches, updates nor any emails about my case since 8/19... but last 09/20 first card production has been ordered. It jumped straight from initial review to card production. USCIS website is not 100% reliable.

Why exactly do you need a driver's license? It's not required as documentation to work. They need to confirm your identity, and your passport is sufficient for that.

HOWEVER: a social security number is required. It shouldn't take 2-3 weeks unless your office is terribly backlogged. L got his in southern Arizona (where it was so busy that we waited 2 hours to be seen) in just over a week (10 days, I think), and I got mine (from my name change, in Iowa) 3 days after I applied. A driver's license isn't required for a SSN (L's passport, I94, and his Brazilian driver's license was sufficient for his SSN).

I think I didn't put up my question correctly - I need a driver's license to ... drive! :) And to have a driver's license issued, I need a SSN. And hence the question. Is there a way I could get the driver's license without the SSN?

And, you said your SSN arrived in 3 days? Wow! I wish it could happen to me too.

It really depends on your state DMV requirements and they all vary slightly but I do believe that most require a SS #. I'm in Utah and here I could get one with an EAD and proof of AOS processing (taking NOA with) plus proof of residence (utilities bill, bank statement or similar). The websites are quite specific so check that out. Driver privelege cards are available to non-documented workers inour state and that doesn't require a SS #. It doesn't hurt to ask though. Good luck!

You don't need a SSN in my state - just proof of eligibility (residency & if you're a non-citizen, your green card or visa + I94). But since L doesn't have a green card yet, his license would only have been good until his I94 expired, so no point... he drives using his Brazilian license & the International Driving Permit, and will continue to do so until his green card's arrived. :)

Mine arrived in 3 days, but I'm a USC, only changed my name, and let's just say... the city in which I live is not the largest. (To give you an idea, the SSA office is a room in the post office, not its own building ... or even a floor. One room.)

Hi August AOS filers!

I'm wondering if anyone else in the group hasn't received their biometrics appointment?

It has been 30 days since we received NOA1 for the EAD. We called USCIS yesterday and were told they would send a 'service request' to USCIS and if we don't receive the appointment in 30 more days to call back.

@ mathranik:

In Iowa if Canadian you don't need a SSN to get it, but they require it later on. All I had was mail proving my address/residence over 30days (so I had to wait 30days before I could try to get it), my I-94 and my Canadian license. I had no driving test or anything :) like I posted before go into your DL Office and they have a pamphlet of what's needed or look on their website!
