so I've decided since it seems that if you go sooner then your scheduled biometrics appointment your case is processed sooner since it's done sooner rather then waiting till the actual scheduled date on the letter; in which mines still 3 weeks away (Oct 7th)......... it seems they stop processing the applications till the biometrics is completed.

So next week Tuesday, I'm trying Des Moines, IA local office.........any good times I should go?

You got a social without EAD?

You can get a Social Security with a K1 Visa and without an EAD (but you cannot work until you have an EAD or a Green Card). Look in VJ for the instructions of how to apply for a SS with a K1 Visa. I applied for it that way 3 weeks ago and it worked.

You got a social without EAD?

Hi yes! I applied for mine within 2-3 weeks after entering the US. And then I changed my name once I was married. usually takes 2-3 weeks before it gets to you in the mail.

but it'll be stamped that you cant work with that number until you have your EAD approved or your green card. Once you have that (green card) you can go again to get the stamp removed and get another new Social Card.

Applying is free! Just bring your visa and any other id (driver's license?) and your marriage certificate to prove your name change from what your visa states.

Well I had a snafu that turned out in the end to be nothing at all:

Yesterday I received the Biometrics letters for both my wife and stepdaughter. The application support office that they assigned me was clear on the other side of the state! I used the online tool for zip codes on the USCIS web site and found that my zip code was incorrectly assigned to the Ft. Myers office! I should be assigned to West Palm Beach but they had Ft. Myers on the appointment. (Oct. 7 )

This morning we drove over to the West Palm Beach office and tried a walk-in Biometrics appointment ... and it worked! kicking.gif I don't think they even looked at the date on the appointment letter, they just stamped it, took the fingerprints and photos and we were on our way! ... in and out in 1 hour.

FYI: The Field Office zip code locator is correct and has me assigned to West Palm Beach so it seems to be only a problem with the Application Support Center assignment.

Yes, you should definitely try for an early walk-in. Because you can't get your EAD until your biometrics is done. Also, you probably won't get your interview appt letter until then either. Since you haven't been transferred to CSC by now, you probably won't be. Plus, Bulwinkle, in the July filers thread, posted that she did an infopass regarding not having received the biometrics letter and the IO told her that if you didn't apply for the AP then you do not get transferred. Makes sense to me because I didnt apply for the AP either and I got scheduled for an interview.

As far as what time to attempt the early walkin, some people have been successful by going after 3pm (me & filipinay went at 3:15) but Bostoncanuck tried that and was told to come back first thing in the morning. I would try after 3pm and if that doesnt work go back the next day right after they open. Good Luck!

Oh, as far as Des Moines, IA, I have no idea, but Vanessa&Tony live in Iowa, http://www.visajourney.com/forums/user/69339-vanessatony/. Maybe you can contact her for specific info on the Des Moines, IA ASC. :)

I went for my biometics apt this morning as its so close to our house it was no big deal if they said no. Got there around 10 and it was busy. The lady said we dont usually take walkins but let me go ask, came back a few mins later and said no problem take the form, the number and have a seat. half hour later was processed and done simple simple simple!!! What / how did you expedite your EAD?

How did you request it?

Hi everyone,

I have mailed my I-485, I-765, I-131 to USCIS Chicago Lockbox on August 14th and got NOAs on Aug 17th.

I am still awaiting the biometrics appointment notice.I called USCIS today and the representative raised a service request since I have not received the appointment letter for biometrics after 30 days from filling.

I currently have a job and my current visa status is L1 which expires on Nov 14th. I could really need my EAD before Nov14 to continue working in my job. Could you please let me know how you were able to expedite the EAD?

Thanks,

Aravind

After I got my walk-in biometrics done, I contacted my Congressmen's office on the phone and asked for the immigration representative. I explained my case to her, and informed her about a job offer letter that i have. She asked me to write a letter explaining the financial hardship and also asked me to fill up a privacy form on her website. I sent her the letter of hardship, my NOA receipt, the job offer letter and privacy form through fax. The next day I called up USCIS to enquire about the expedite, and they said they don't have a request yet. But the next day the lady from congressmen's office called to tell me that she has received an email from USCIS confirming my expedite and production of card. Till then, my case didn't show up on USCIS website, but the day the card production was ordered, my EAD case shows up online and reflects the card production! :)

Hopefully, in 8 more days, I should receive it in my mail.

Good luck to everyone.

I received my interview letter today. Monday October 18 at 2:45pm - in San Francisco!

Congratulations! I was the first August filer to receive an interview appointment but my interview so far is scheduled later than everyone's, 10/22. That's ok, it gives us plenty of needed time to prepare. I'm discovering that there is alot of paper work involved in adding my wife's name to everything (lease, bank acct, insurance & 401k beneficiary, utility bills, etc) so actually I'm glad our appt was scheduled 6 weeks in advance. Anyway, good luck and let us know how it goes! :)
