My fiancee just arrived in Houston yesterday July 31 2010.As she was unpacking her things I noticed theres a big brown envelope in her things.I ask her about it and she said she went to the immigration and he stamped her passport and then handed it back to her.She asked him if everything was ok.He said yes everything is fine you are good thank you and have a nice day.So she proceeded to the connecting terminal and finished her trip. She said he never asked her about the sealed envelope or anything. So now here we are. We are both here together holding the sealed envelope. Can anyone please inform us of what we need to do?Can she be deported for this? How can we fix this issue?

It's rare, but not the first time this happened. She won't get deported, but she does need to let them know. Ring Immigration at her POE; most likely, they'll want her to bring the envelope back.

Agreed, they certainly need this envelope. Make sure you take care of this ASAP in order not to cause any problems

If you are near an international airport I would stop by and ask to speak to an immigration inspection officer. Tell him the story and ask to turn in the envelope. If you are closer to an USCIS office make a trip ( you may want to make an infopass appointment first )

This will not be over quickly. You will not enjoy this.

You can go back to the POE - I assume she entered at Bush International Airport and there will be a border entry office there - she will turn over the envelope to them and if she didn't get an I-94 into her passport and her passport stamped, they will process her there. If the other stuff was done and it is just the envelope (although it is hard to imagine how they processed her without accessing the envelope), then they just need to process the envelope.

Don't panic. She will be fine - she has done nothing wrong and it is a relatively straightforward process to get the fixed.

Here is the link to the Customs and Border Protection list of POEs. You may not be in the Houston area any longer so if you follow this link and click on Texas it will give you a list of other POE offices you can go to to get this straightened out:

http://www.cbp.gov/xp/cgov/toolbox/ports/ When you click on Texas you will find the Houston Airport listed and near the bottom of the page will be directions to the actual POE office.

Was she not taken into the Immigration office after the initial Point of immigration?

When my wife arrived, she was taken into the office and processed. This took about 30 minutes. The first immigration officer advised her that she was here on a K1 Visa and had 90 days to marry. SHe then was escorted to an office where she was questioned, and given the I-94. We also arrived in Houston.

I would call USCIS, this may save you a flight back to Houston for a 30 minute process. Many major cities have an immigration office so I would check this option first.

Good Luck !

She was never taken into a office. It was just the officer in the booth. He took her finger prints and picture. He talked to her in tagalog ask her were she is going and when is the lucky day.He then stamped the passport and I94 and gave it back to her.She asked if everything was ok.He replied yes you are good thank you have a nice day.

Houston finally called us back.We had to go to oklahoma city to the U.S. Customs and Border Protection office. The officer there took her passport and I94 and corrected the date on them because it was dated for 6 months.Should have been dated for 90 days.We then followed him in our car to the USCIS office. He turned in our brown envelope and told us everything is good make sure we get married within 90 days and file the I485.It was an easy process just hope they dont make anymore mistakes. Thanks for the replies they helped guide us in the right direction to get this fixed.
