Hi!

It's just the other day that i noticed that my GC is only valid for two years.

I know that you can apply for citizenship 3 years after you've been a resident (give or take a few months), but than what should i do?

Should i get another GC (how much does that cost?) or could i possibly apply for citizenship when my GC expires?

Besides, how much in advance should i apply for a new GC, or can i do it after it expires?

This is so confusing.

Thank you

Within 90 days before your green card expires you need to apply for removal of conditions (don't apply even 1 day early or they will send it back). You can remove conditions by filling out and sending in the form I-751 along with the required evidence to prove you are still married in good faith and don't forget the filing fees. 1 to 2 months later you will get a biometrics appointment in the mail, be sure to go to your appointment to have your pictures and fingerprints taken. After that appointment you will either get a request for further evidence (RFE), an interview appointment, or an approval notice. Most people get approved without RFE or interviews. Then on the 3rd year of being a permanent resident you can apply for citizenship assuming you are still married. If you are not longer married you have to wait until the 5th year. You can apply for citizenship within the 90 days before your 3rd year or anytime after of being a permanent resident if you are still married. Don't apply for citizenship anytime before that 90 day window because they will send it back and sometimes you get all of the way to the interview only to be denied and they keep the filing fees :(
