Is marking a form wrong grounds for denial?

My husband and I filed his AOS back in February and we received a receipt that the file had been transferred to California, March 5th. This past week, I got a notification via email from USCIS stating that the case had been denied. We have not received a letter yet but the our Congressman's office is in the process of inquiring why the case was denied. In the meantime, we have gone back through the paperwork and I realized this morning that I marked the wrong box on the I-864 on pages 1 and 3. Very stupid mistake but a mistake none the less. This is the only thing that we have found that could be the reason for the denial. Does anyone know if this would be a reason for a denial or would you be sent an RFE? I have done some research and it looks like we might have to file all over again and pay the fees all over again. I never realized marking the wrong box would end up being a 2,000 dollar mistake. If anyone has any experience or insight, I would much appreciate it.

Thank you!

Are you sure it is a denial? Typically a mistake on any form may result in an RFE (Request for Evidence) where the form(s) is returned and processing stops while the proper information is submitted.

Without having the actual letter it is difficult to know what may have caused a denial.

My husband put his total income ( 16k salary & 6k VA disability) instead of 16k ( taxable) on his last three years federal taxes column and we got an RFE to submit the evidence of current income like pay stubs ,employer letter etc. So i don't think they would simply deny you just because of that.

We are still assuming if they wouldn't find our evidence of current income like pay tubs and employment letter sufficient they might RFE us again!! I can say from my experience they didn't deny you because of that.
