Still too much!!! its crazy- why have they gone up sooo much!

Right now the skype subscriptions are the cheapest per minute- but with the limited minutes its a hard choice... or like i said we can get multiple accounts...

Another thing I've started doing is making Youtube videos for him (unlisted, so only he has the link). It's not like talking on the phone, but he can make them for me too, at an internet cafe that has a webcam. And it's totally free (for me anyway), I can show him what my life is like, and we can print out the webpages to show at the interview. No idea if that will actually help us there or not. It makes me feel better anyway.

Jen and Babs

Psalm 20:5

1/01/2007 - First date

2/04/2010 - I-129F sent

2/08/2010 - NOA1

3/30/2010 - NOA2 Approved!!

4/07/2010 - NVC received

5/12/2010 - Packet picked up/interview date assigned

10/25/2010 - Finally back in Ghana to visit!

11/01/2010 - Interview--mostly positive, but consular officer requires cosponsor

11/24/2010 - 3rd appt.--Finally have all documents in. Result-Administrative Processing! Consulate says they will contact my fiance

05/18/2011 - Admin processing complete! Babs is asked to appear at the embassy on the 25th.

05/25/2011 - En route to the embassy, Babs is robbed on the roadside. His passport and other papers are all stolen. After filling out a police report, he arrives at the embassy a little late, and they allow him in to speak to the CO, even though he has no valid ID. Thank God! The CO gives him another appointment on June 15th, to bring a new passport and also an updated police certificate.

06/14/2011 - New passport (expedited) ready.

06/15/2011 - The CO finds a missing stamp on the new passport. Sends Babs back to the passport office and tells him to return in the afternoon. All is taken care of. VISA APPROVED!!!! PRAISE GOD!!!!

06/24/2011 - Visa pick up date--told to return on the 30th.

06/30/2011 - Babs returns but doesn't get the visa. Back in AP!

10/05/2011 - Embassy brings Babs back with updated medical. Approved!! CO sets pick-up for only 2 days away, so as not to delay him any longer.

10/07/2011 - VISA IN HAND!!

Thanks. I checked and Ghana is still pretty high for localphone.com, about $0.25/min. Not sure why Ghana would be so much higher than Nigeria.

The rates for Ghana have gone higher because the government increased the taxes on phone calls or something like that.

Hey friends..I just recently I switched my mobile service to prepaid virgin mobile which on the sprint network. Anyways...the ghana mobile rate is .20 cents a min. and my friends there say the quality is a lot better than when i used pingo and its 3 cents cheaper...also its so much easier for me to just click on their number and call them rather than dial pingo then out from there. Just fyi. YOu also get free minuts if someone your refer using your number mine is NJDPXPOJ

One way I communicate with friends there is through facebook. If they have a phone that is internet accessible (which is not uncommon) they can go on facebook with there own sim minutes. it breaks down this way (as explained to me)when they go to facebook and read and reply to messages...the cost is 15 facebook replies vs one sms. so very cheap for them....with the virgin mobil I have unlimited internet on it and i have my facebook send me a text whenever i get a facebook message...so they get a reply quickly from me. its waaaay cheaper than how i handled it before. there is no international text packages though with virgin moble:( so it cost .15 to send and receive which is fine cause lately mtn has not even been delivering them so we dont even use txt anymore.

if anyone knows a cheaper rate offered for ghana from a cell phone let me know im always trying to figure out how to save some change. Hope this helps.

Wow! Thanks for that info.

Yr welcome. by the way, it does show on their website your history so u can print it all...so believe me that is much easier than having to print history from different sources for proof at interview. i pay 40 a month for 1200 anytime minutes and unlimeted domestic text and internet...which is perfect for me since we keep intouch on facebook. You can top up for at least 10 bucks at website or buy the top up cards. its so much easier than buying pingo and the quality is better. and its so cool for me just to click on their name on my cell and dial direct.

I have been a faithful memeber of VIP communications and also Rebtel. You can send me a direct message so I can send you a referral link.

Also, maybe you want to try using webcam and talk online. Whether or not you use Skype, Yahoo, or Google, the calls will all be free and you can talk as long as you want. For us, Yahoo and Google have worked best because they don't use as much bandwidth for their web calling as Skype.

Skype has something called "Skype To Go," which lets you use Skype on your cell phone or home phone. I call my personal access number, and once connected I dial Ghana. So, I program the Skype To Go access number in my cell and when connected I press the speed dial number to call Ghana. I literally press two numbers to dial Ghana. Skype To Go was dang near perfect till the rates to Ghana increased.

Nope, no downloading at all. It's like using one of those pre-paid phone cards, but it is better because you add credit to your acct when needed, it's your very own personal number (the access number), and it has speed dial.
