My original birth certificate does look weird to myself with faded ink, spelling mistakes and stuff. I think safe to be prepared for an RFE . Am thinking of doing the option # 3 .. "An affidavit from a close relative, preferably the applicant’s mother, stating the date and place of birth, both parents names, and the mother’s maiden name"

Anybody done this and aware of any std template for this? what you folks say?

Are you looking at your hospital birth certificate? You were born in the US, right?

You aren't supposed to send the birth cert given to your family at the hospital. You need the official record of your birth as is of record in the county, parish, township or town wherein you were born.

Our journey together on this earth has come to an end.

I will see you one day again, my love.

Hey you can apply for a new copy of your birth certificate, without spelling mistakes and stuff like that.

You can easily get it from the local municipal office within a week if you apply.

I would get a new certificate and send it to NVC rather than sending the one with mistakes on it.

Well you can try, because it will only help you not get any RFE and as for the affidavit i m not sure if it will work.

hi there - my wife's from kerala too and had to go get her BC from village near calicut. it was nothing but pure hell. even the bribing and all still ended up taking a whole week to get it, not to mention the sweltering heat and the absolute incompetence at each level. it would be good if you have some contact there. if not, do prepare to shell out some money (2-3k rs) if you want it done...

the other option like you mentioned before is the affidavit from your mother. that should work - also, do you have your SSLC handy? that will also do. those 2 should be ok if you dont want to do the BC...good luck!

I am in similar situation. I am the petitioner and my hubbys birth certificate came from some small village in West Bengal. His mother's name was not even listed on it and the registration date was from 1997. Also his father's name has one letter spelled differently than on his passport. I did call NVC before sending in our package and they advised me to write letters explaining all this. I did write the letters and then included secondary evidence of his school certificate and ration card which showed both parents names. I am in the June limbo hell of waiting for a case complete so I have no idea if they will issue and RFE or not...Good Luck..to both of us

thx for your replies... hobokenworkingman, didnt know SSLC will be a valid one or NVC can recognise it.. lets see. As of now, I have sent the original BC. If RFE , comes I have to find a way.

quite agree its a time consuming process, vis-a-vis the quick way we want it done.. But must say, things with govt offices have definitely improved from how things were maybe a few years back. Maybe when they know we are not illiterates and know what is what, they try a few less tricks.
