Hello everyone.

My fiancè is in the military, and yesterday he got a call from his work, saying that he is going to be sent TOMORROW (07/31) to the gulf to help with the oil spill problem...

The thing is, he is going to be gone for 2 MONTHS, and we are in the middle of the k1 process. We estimate that we are gonna get the NOA2 in the next 2 months or less, but he won´t be home to get the notification.

My question is, can he go to the post office, and ask them to forward his mails to his mother´s house?

He will probably be staying at barracks or a hotel, so he can´t forward the mails to where he is going to be staying...

I am not freaking out yet, but a little concerned, because if we get the NOA2 while he is gone, we might have some issues with gathering documents and stuff....

Any ideas???

Any help will be appreciated!

Thanks.

I guess he could call the USCIS to change his address. My wife was living with me in france till she had to go back to the US, she simply called USCIS and gave them her new adress.

Good luck

I don't think the post office will forward mail from USCIS. Have him call the post office, see if they will hold his mail, and allow someone to pick it up for him, once a week.

I think the safest thing would be for him to put his mail on hold at the post office, this will prevent it from getting lost or returned to USCIS. Or he can go online to the USCIS and update his address and use his mothers if he likes.

So, the problem is , he will probably be sent to many different places on the gulf, on the next 2 months...

Could he change his address on USCIS website to his mother´s and when he returns, switch it back to his own address?

If so, I think that´s the best idea...

Thank you for all your help!

Yes he can do that, and I would also have his mother notify her mail carrier and let them know he may be receiving mail there.

Does he have a friend or neighbour who can check his mail box regularly? By the time your approved petition is fwd to NVC so on and so on it'll likely be more than two months. You just need someone to hold it safely in case it comes in.

See profile for our K-1 Visa/AOS story from 2010-2011Apparently we love USCIS/NVC so much we left and are doing it again! This time giving IR-1 a whirl. Rock on immigrators.

07/09/2014 sent in IR-1 packet to Chicago Lockbox

07/16/2014 NOA1

07/17/2014 check cashed by USCIS

10/01/2014 found out we are expecting baby #2 June 2015!

12/15/2014 NOA2

12/30/2014 Case received by NVC

03/23/2015 Received Case and Inv # from NVC after many calls and bogus excuses.

03/24/2015 AOS payment accepted by NVC

04/09/2015 IV payment finally accepted by NVC after the set the wrong fee and took weeks to correct it.

*many more delays thanks to the agency processing my fingers prints to the RCMP and the post office losing our mail*

05/20/2015 Packet sent to NVC via UPS, eta May 28.

06/16/2015 Baby #2 due - homebirth in Scottsdale, AZ

He is kinda new on the neighborhood, so I don´t think anybody would really check it regurlarly :(

We got our NOA1 on July, 2nd..it´s been almost a month, regarding the fact that california service center seems to be working faster lately, we presume he will be gone when they send our NOA2... but as suggested I think he will just change his address to his mother´s for now(on uscis website), and then change it back to his actual address when he returns...

Thank you everybody for your help!
