This says they are closed on July 30, but doesn't say they will be open on Monday Aug 2nd--- rather -- they will advise when they are open again which sounds like they aren't sure..... YIKES.. my husband has an interview on Wednesday the 4th... guess I'll have to call Monday before his flight to see if they will be open before he heads that way.

The U.S. Consulate General in Ciudad Juarez is closed on July 30, 2010 to review its security posture. American citizens are advised avoid the area around the Consulate General until it reopens. Authorities are investigating the situation.

The Consulate General has cancelled all scheduled appointments and services for Friday, July 30. As soon as we can reopen we will inform the public by a warden notice and posting on our web page.

American citizens with appointments for passport or other services may make a new appointment via the Consulate website below. For non-immigrant visa applicants, our call center will call or e-mail applicants to reschedule appointments. Alternatively, applicants may re-schedule non-immigrant visa appointments without being charged by calling 01-800-719-2525. Immigrant visa applicants should be advised that the medical clinics where they will receive their medical exams may also close on short notice. Immigrant visa applicants will be rescheduled for their interviews at a later date.

American citizens who need emergency services only should call the Consulate General duty officer at 656 327 7877 for assistance.

Thats too bad !... They should consider to make immigrant interviews in other Consulates !..Like Monterrey and Mexico City at least !..Cd Juarez is the most dangerous city of Mexico.

Sorry for those who had interviews today.

Czmjacq: I hope they will re-open soon so you wont need to reschedule your husband's appoinment!

Thanks Marisol. I don't know how accurate the information is, but my husband said on the news here in Mexico they said there were threats of more car bombs and they think US Consulate could be a target... from what he heard they were going to wait a couple of weeks to see if there were any more car bombs and then reopen. Again, I'm not sure if that is accurate, but if they are going to reschedule 2 weeks worth of people, seems like it will be months before those people get appointments, since others have appointments already scheduled for 2 weeks from now and beyond and I doubt they would cancel those to put in the ones that are cancelled in the next 2 weeks.

What a shame!..because you right, I think they would reschedule the appoinments for the days still free.

I'm really sorry for you guys that have upcoming interviews, because that just adds more stress to a situation which already has tons of unknowns. In the long run, this may be a really good thing if they finally accept that it is a terrible place for the immigrant visa post.

Keka, the last time they had an unscheduled closing was a couple months ago when a couple consular employees were shot after a party and they closed for one unscheduled day. Before that, I believe the last one was during the flu epidemic and many people had to be re-scheduled last summer.

April 19, 2010 - NOA1 (documents received at Mexico City Embassy)

April 20, 2010 - NOA2 (received notice April 28, 2010, mailed April 27)

May 3, 2010 - Packet 3 sent (received May 27, 2010)

May 9, 2010 - I emailed them using the inquiry form asking for my case number

May 17, 2010 - received case number and link to Packet 3 by email

May 18, 2010 - sent Packet 3 to Ciudad Juarez

May 28, 2010 - called Ciudad Juarez to see if we had an appointment yet, they said wait 6-8 weeks :(

May 30, 2010 - I return to the US

June 8, 2010 - called and found out appointment date

June 16, 2010 - received Packet 4

July 6, 2010 - interview - Approved!

July 7, 2010 - pick up visa at DHL and POE to activate

July 29, 2010 - welcome letter received

August 1, 2010 - my husband comes home to me

August 13, 2010 - received Green Card

September 28, 2010 - never received Social Security Card, had to apply for it, arrived Sept. 28

Correction-- the 2 weeks closing was a misunderstanding. Supposedly when the last car bomb happened in Ciudad Juarez the bombers said they were going to do another in 2 weeks which apparently is today so that may be part of the closing. I don't know if there were actual direct threats to the consulate or if it was just a precaution. I wish we had more info -- ie-- will they be open next week or WHEN will they make a decision as to when they will reopen??? Guess we will all just wait and see. I really feel sorry for people who were already there and have appts. today and Monday.... I heard the clinics are closed today so that would be a problem for people who have consulate appts. on Monday.... What a mess!
