when 20% (1 in 5) of a Demographic are "illegals" - you'd almost hope for profiling...

In a place like the city of Houston...roughly 20-25% of the population is foreign born and slightly less than half of those foreigners are estimated to be illegal aliens. I read that in the Houston Chronicle newspaper. And the vast majority of those illegal aliens are from Latin America. In fact, probably in the neighborhood of 85%+.

How's that for a profile?

"Credibility in immigration policy can be summed up in one sentence: Those who should get in, get in; those who should be kept out, are kept out; and those who should not be here will be required to leave."

"...for the system to be credible, people actually have to be deported at the end of the process."

So, what is the argument? That "Hispanic looking" people should be exempt from questioning about immigration status, but everyone else should be questioned, just to make it "fair"? I don't get it. If "Hispanic looking" people are the majority of those who enter Arizona illegally, what's racist about expecting that demographic to be questioned? It's also mostly Hispanics and Hispanic race pimping groups that identify the trespassers are part of their constituency.

Hell, as an Arab Muslim and I expect that people going to look harder at Muslims when identifying terrorists, and that is understandable. Cries of racism are just guilt tactics that work all too well on their targets, but they are just plain old manipulative BS. Too bad it's so hard to convince White folks who fall for this ####### that it's only designed to make them fold, even when they shouldn't. That's why I like Jan Brewer so much; she's not letting it stop her :luv:

that's not all that it's about, and you should can the "white folks" condescension #######, because it's rather unbecoming.

"better that ten guilty persons escape than that one innocent suffer"-blackstone's formulation is not a half bad motto. acquiescence to big government on this issue isn't going to help americans in the long run, it's going to hurt them.

I stand by what I said. I don't buy into letting some pass to avoid a little discomfort. That's condesending ####### that serves only to make excuses for lawbreakers. And, yea, White guilt hurts all of us when identity politics trumps common sense, which bleeding heart diversions tend to do. Acquiesence to mocking accusations of racism only dulls sensitivity to real racism.

in that case, why stop there then? why not just flush the whole damn 4th amendment down the toilet while yr at it? if we quit worrying about all that "right to a speedy trial" ####### and just let people rot in jail cells while the state takes their own sweet time to bring up charges, the state would probably have even better conviction rates too. is that discomfort worth it then? exactly where do you draw the line? when did you start hating the constitution and loving big government's boots on people's necks?

trying to draw accurate conclusions about immigration status based on skin color, ethnicity, physical appearance is a losing game. i bought a new mac lipstick the other day from a woman at the store with a british accent. should i have questioned her immigration status because her accent is totally foreign and not all that common in the pacific northwest? maybe have called the police so they could check her papers because she wrote the date as 27/7/10 instead of 7/27/10 the way real americans do? i bet she says zed instead of zee too...definitely suspicious...

that resonse is utter hyperbole devolving into rank emotional appeal. Just the kind of irrational approach that Ive been arguing against. It has nothing to do with how law enforcement really works, and only serves to divert attention from the real issues. Illegals are foreigners; most of them will have accents or be brown, but that doesn't place them above the law.

Nor should the essential narrative be primarily about how any law or law affects them. Other, more valid narratives are about how they, and those who abet and exploit them negatively impact our economy, opportunities and social fabric by driving down wages, creating distrust of our goverment, enabling further expansion of government powers, etc.. Permissibilty in law enforcement to avoid being called racist or xenophobe is no way to conduct discourse, much less the basis upon which to form publiic policy. Rationality and constitutionality are not mutually exclusive yet.

that's not an answer to the question i asked. i asked, what is your limit on civil liberty infringement? how much power are you willing to surrender to your government in order to round up them there illegals?

nothing i have written has been about how any law affects "them". how the law affects "them" is completely beside the point i've been making. my concern, first and foremost, is how this could affect american citizens and people residing in america legally, and how it can infringe on their rights. you say it's valid to be concerned about how the presence of illegal immigrants in this country are "enabling further expansion of government powers" but are not concerned about how this law also does that?

I took my boys fishing yesterday and I had to get a fishing license. Dam,the guy behind the sporting goods counter even ask me for ID!

Please try in the future to keep the words civil liberties in context.

IT can be a problem when it comes to Racial profiling, I guess as long as it's happening to someone else but not to you, Our law enforcement needs to look at all individual with respect no matter their income bracket or they can afford a 6 figures lawyer to take up their case. Ask this black guy who spent 27 years in Jail for a Rape he didn't commit, 4 guys raped a lady and ran away with with a car, 4 suspect ran away and it just happen this black guy was passing by and they took it.

He spent 27 years in Jail while those 4 rapist went Free, The victim didn't get Justice, The people didn't get Justice.

This same thing happened in Lubbock, TX. The man (black) 18 years old and a Texas Tech student was convicted of rape and sentenced to 25 years on prison in 1985. In 1995 the true guilty party wrote to the district court with no reply. He then wrote another letter asking for an attorney so he could officially confess. Again, no reply. He ultimately wrote to the DA Jim Bob Darnell who prosecuted the case and again was met with silence. Finally in 2007 he tracked down an address that he believed to be Tim's address and wrote out his confession and sent it to that address. The Cole family was there and read the letter. By this time it was too late because Timothy Cole died in prison in 1999 an innocent man from severe asthma.

Few years ago when I 1st move to California, I was in the city of Mountain View, and I noticed this cop tagging me for a good 10-15 minutes without any

putting his signal or sirene, when i drove into a residential area, i could see the car still following me, so finally i said time to get out of this town, right before I got onto the Free, the signal finally came, when I asked what's the reason for stopping me you get the same

License and Registration

Gave it to her,

When she came back, again I asked her what's the reason for Stopping me, YOU HAVE BEEN FOLLOWING ME FOR THE PAST 15Minutes, IS THERE A PROBLEM?

She said she stop me because of the stop sign, needless to say

SHE's A FUTURISTIC COP< SHE ALREADY KNEW 15 MINUTES EALIER I was going to take a stop sign. Which I didn't because Guess what she wrote on the ticket

"FAILURE TO STOP AT THE LIMIT OF THE STOP SIGN"

It wasn't one of the major intersection with the big white crosswalk, just a regular street with just the yellow lines, So the question is

IF A COP IS FOLLOWING YOU FROM BEHIND< HOW CAN SHE SEES WHERE THE FRONT OF MY CAR TO SAY I WENT OVER THE YELLOW LINE?

I COULD UNDERSTAND IF SHE WAS IN THE OPPOSITE DIRECTION< OR AT THE CORNER, but this is the REAL LIFE not some FICTION
