Okay, I know I am not the brightest bulb in the closet. Thats acceptable to me. I have still managed to eek out a modest living for most of my life. So having said that I send in a question regarding my wife's Passport to the NVC. I was hoping they would be able to give me some guidance or clarify what I needed to do. Here was the question I had:

I have a question regarding my wife's Philippines passport. Upon receipt

of the IV DS-230 Invoice from the NVC, I will be submitting our IV

package. I have a copy of my wife's passport which is still valid for 2

more years. However, this passport is in her maiden name. She is in the

process of renewing her passport but the new one will not be completed

and ready at the time I submit the IV DS-230 package. Will it be

acceptable to submit her current passport BIO page with the IV package

and for her to bring in her new passport with the proper name and a copy

of her Bio Page with her to the interview?

Thanks you for your assistance

Respectfully,

THIS IS THE RESPONSE I RECEIVED FROM NVC

Dear Sir/Madam:

Your inquiry has been received at the National Visa Center (NVC).

Please submit the requested documents to the NVC for review.

If a period of one year passes from the last date of contact with the

NVC (by email, telephone or mail), all submitted fees and documents will

expire. In that case, your fees will need to be repaid and documents

will need to be resubmitted in order to continue the immigration

process.

Respectfully,

Ok question to you. Did your wife chenge her name after the marriage? If not, then go ahead and submit this copy of her passport and have her just bring the new one to the interview.

If YES, then it's a little confusing. Did you file the petition in her old name or the new one?

I don't think they understood your question. IMO just bring her new passport to the interview. This is the passport she will give them and the visa will be inserted into it. As a result her green card will be issued in the name on this passport. You could also include a note with your IV package explaining this situation. Alternatively, you could wait to submit your IV package until she has the new passport, not sure how much that would set you back.

Guys, I though the question was a really simple one. I just wanted some level of assurance that what I was thinking would be okay. If the workers cant handle simple questions then its no wonder it takes so long to get through this process.

MSD, Her name was changed once the wedding papers were finalized. She then changed here name on other documents like insurance card, employee info, bank account etc... and is using her new name as we speak, in her day to day activities.

OBX, Clearly this Jesus person didn't understand the question or couldnt formulate a response and to me this is inexcusable. If I was ordering a Cheese Burger it would not be such a big deal but this is the National VISA Center. I would think there would be an ability requirement for positions held by their workers. As a Tax payer I find it upsetting that our Government or their workers are so inept. Some level of performance is needed for any type of work. Don't misunderstand me. I dont blame Jesus. He is just collecting a check. I blame the NVC who hired him.

Yes we used her wed name from the first although they did ask for Maiden Names in the paperwork submitted. I agree with you about bring the new passport with her for her interview. That will be the name they put on her VISA and other documentation like SSN. I just want her new name used because it will save us additional frustration down the road.

Hmm in that case it would probably be better to have a new passport with the married name in it. But I'm really not sure if she can still use the old one since the new one IS her name now. Hopefully somebody else can answer this. Maybe open an own thread for it so more people will read it?

Its not a problem. I dont need a new thread for this. Her new passport will have her new married name on it. Thats the main reason for getting a new one. I would think the majority of people change their name after marriage. With the speed of NVC we still have lots of time for her to get a new one and its being worked on now. Passports are not that hard to get, especially if you already have a valid on. Its all good. Thanks...

Ug. I think a lot of this silliness can be 'fixed' by including a color print of a scan of her CURRENT (with married name) passport BIO PAGE.

If she doesn't have the gear at home -

she can get into a copy shop, have it scanned at hi-res, then coverted to PNG file format,

she or the copy shop, can email it to you, you can print it out on a color printer,

then include it with the DS-230, with the DS-230 showing her married name and any prior names (maiden name).

It's really not that confoozaling, I swear.

Now, as to 'Jesus' response to you - wth? There was no 'document' in his 'document request' - or did you edit that out?

Want some steam, to cook Jesus a bit?

Prepare a case, on this incident, submit it to the Ombudsman's office.

Maybe I am not clear. My wife has a passport in her maiden name. She is getting a new one issued in her married name. I provided copy of her maiden name passport to the NVC in the DS 230 pkg. Once she has her new married name passport in hand I will provide them with a copy unless they have sent our package to the Embassy.

Your correct there was no document or anything else of value. What I posted was what I got. I did take out our Names and NVC numbers and birth dates but that was all.

Thanks for the suggestion. I might if this was really important but I dont think I am really affected by this as I was just looking for a warm and fuzzy...:blink: Dont think I will do that again.

As ALways Thanks... :yes::lol:
