Well, how to say...I hope nobody takes offense.

It seems that there are a lot of people that are immigrants themselves and are now "getting more people from their own country" to the US.

A lot of people that marry people from the country they emmigrated from.

A lot of Us-citizen-comments are in terribly English and seem to be more "immigrant" then "UScitizen".

I personally have my difficulties with it, how about you guys?

(Again: I do not want to insult anybody.)

OH - I have problems with English, still, and I'm a native-born, US Citizen.

Sometimes my language usage seems confusing - please feel free to 'read it twice', just in case !

Hey, how's that for an excuse for my "wonderful English": I am the immigrant, not the USC. :innocent:

There is plenty of badly written english on here. Hopefully those people speak it better than they write it. Also, I think when people are upset or angry the don't check what they've written or think clearly when they write and they come across as ignorant or as second language speakers. But I do agree that, as in every other country with immigrants, there are many people who will try to bring all their relatives plus the rest of their village once they're granted residency :P . It's inescapable wherever you go.

I'm sorry, but how can you write something like that, and expect not to insult anybody

I have no problems with it, they are just like you and me trying to get their loved ones here... and by the way I was born in Chile and I am a US citizen, my hubby is from Chile.. I fell in love with him no other reason behind that...

This process is stressful enough, the last thing I want to do is worry about the grammar or whether they are US citizens, they have valid questions that have been answered by many people that maybe cannot spell very well either and their answers have helped me a ton!!!

Just my two cents, don't be offended... :)

I am a us citezen born here from my father who migrated here from south africa. I absolutely dont have a problem with it, in fact i fail to see the relevance of perfect English for a US citizen. Also i understand the need for immigration law and for boarders and i support that we have both, it is tightly wound into our economy as a nation, but the unfortunate human consequence is that many families are torn apart and no matter how much we need boarders and immigration law, it seems a bit wrong that a family should be kept apart by the laws of a country relating to that countries economy. reasonable people can appreciate both sets of challenges and still disagree.

I now hope you dont take offence but it seems petty to worry about how good a persons English is as a measure of their worthiness to receive the benefits of a citizen or permanent resident particularly when the country in discussion is the melting pot of America with tons and tons of citizens whom English is not their first language, a country founded on immigration.

I kinda get what you're saying, and I have noticed it as well.

While I don't have a problem with it -- whom am I to? This is not my country and I'm an immigrant as well -- somethings do irk me. For example, there are those who have just received their visa or are still waiting for their Green Card to be issued who will want to know how soon they can petition to bring their brother, sister, father, mother, uncle, nephew over to the U.S. This 'chain-migration' of the entire village is something that does that I don't approve of.

If one has lived in the US for several years and is the only child of rapidly aging parents, I can understand him/her wishing to bring them over so that they can be taken care of in their old age.

As for English, I do think, a basic ability to read and write the language should be a requirement for immigration. Exceptions could be made for elderly grandparents.
