I particularily like the the response of the Kremin representative concerning native dances. Gotta love the FSU!

Interesting story. I'll have to ask my wife about it. Her father lives in Krasnodar. Because of its proximity to Chechenya we long ago decided to have her father visit us in Ukraine when we travel, instead of me trying to get a visa for Russia.

The one thing I like about Russia is their unwillingness to be PC. If they think that's the way it is, they say it. There's no sugar-coating anything in Russia. Not even the cake!

I lived months at a time in Krasnodar with frequent trips by train and plane to Adler/Sochi and nothing ever happened. I often heard comments about Chechnya, but nobody said that it was dangerous for me to be there. In fact, I was there a few months after full buildings were bombed in 1999. The only difference was that I had to be identified as a resident with the people who were on patrol around the buildings.

Krasnodar is as safe/dangerous as any other Russian city, according to my experience.
