However, your call of BS is incorrect. UK doesn't have guns as referenced in this story so claims of a higher crime rate in the US - because of concealed carry guns - is comepletely bogus, especially when the UK, in fact, has a higher crime rate.

But the story doesn't reference the UK anywhere does it?

It doesn't. But, your BS call of my post that the UK has a higher crime rate than US was made in reference to Heracles' post that the US has a higher crime rate than most developed countries.

Since developed countries around here typically means UK (unless our favorite Aussie is here then we'll include AUS as well) I replied with that fact.

Given we're all in the mood to fact-check... can we see that post again where that 'fact' is in plain sight?

It's not in plain sight. As a matter of fact, many folks on here deny it exists, hence the common misconception.

Okay, so the story didn't mention the UK and guns, Hercules didn't mention anything about the UK and guns. Therefore you were referencing nothing but your opinion that the UK has no guns, correct?

Not at all. I was referencing his post about crime rates.

I should probably also point out that Hercules is our favorite Aussie, and therefore was likely thinking of Australia at the time.

Sneaky #######.

AUS has a higher crime rate too so it doesn't matter which country he or anyone else chooses. USA! USA! USA!

Well if we start with murder, The US murder rate is 0.042802 per 1000 The UK murder rate is 0.0140633 per 1000.

That's a pretty sobering stat. Nearly 4 times the number of people are killed in the US than in the UK.

The Soviet Union had an even lower murder rate - not a great argument in favor of strict gun control.

The gun is the only personal weapon that puts a 100-pound woman on equal footing with a 220-pound mugger, a 75-year old retiree on equal footing with a 19-year old gang banger, and a single guy on equal footing with a carload of drunks with baseball bats.

The fact that the gun makes lethal force easier works solely in favor of the weaker defender, not the stronger attacker. If both are armed, the field is level.

I have no dog in this hunt, but there's one question on my mind: what if the President of the United States is visiting Arizona, waving to the crowd from his open motor arcade, just like Kennedy did, and thousands of spectators carry loaded guns, concealed, perfectly legal?

How would that work out?

There is no room in this country for hyphenated Americanism. When I refer to hyphenated Americans, I do not refer to naturalized Americans. Some of the very best Americans I have ever known were naturalized Americans, Americans born abroad. But a hyphenated American is not an American at all . . . . The one absolutely certain way of bringing this nation to ruin, of preventing all possibility of its continuing to be a nation at all, would be to permit it to become a tangle of squabbling nationalities, an intricate knot of German-Americans, Irish-Americans, English-Americans, French-Americans, Scandinavian-Americans or Italian-Americans, each preserving its separate nationality, each at heart feeling more sympathy with Europeans of that nationality, than with the other citizens of the American Republic . . . . There is no such thing as a hyphenated American who is a good American. The only man who is a good American is the man who is an American and nothing else.

Ironically Mr Wilson, I'm not really argueing for strict gun control.

I'm just point out the many fallicies of one person who seems to think they are nearly infalluable.

Yes and then you said the UK has no guns. The story didn't mention it, Hercules didn't mention it. You, Mr. Slim mentioned it. And you, I am afraid were wrong yet again. I dare say your earlier arrogant statement that you are nearly infalluable but with 1 mistake in 10,000 has been shown also to be wrong.
