It's sad that constructive criticism has become being anti-American, yet doing nothing while your country literally turns into the third world [ has turned in various places] is patriotic.

Ironically, some of us foreigners care more about the country than its own citizens, who are clearly more interested in themselves. Unfortunately this attitude is not isolated to this forum, many out there still assume America is the envy of the world. Therefore, why would you bother improving when you are already #1? Deeer idiot...

I realized the other day that conservatives abroad tend to want to expand and overcome tax [smartly], by earning more and investing [growing] their wealth. Totally different mentality here, as it's all about cut cut cut.

####### is there left to cut? CA workers are now being paid minimum wages. Teachers in CA have classrooms with up to 30 students. Some actually expect people to live in cardboard boxes under rusted bridges and eat earthworms to get by. Apparently not doing so means they are overspending and spoiled - deserve nothing. I don't think even the most die-hard right-winger I know outside the US has that attitude.

It's insane or more likely ignorance

Progressives or liberals or whatever their title is don't want freeloaders and people who cheat the system. The right wing can't see that. The liberals know that the cheats will bring down a liberal agenda and are as much against that stuff as the far right.

Fraudulent users of public funds are pirates and as right wing and 'entrepreneurial' as they come in their actions if not their voting actions

I think if the centrists could accept that message then they might accept a more progressive agenda

No wasteful subsidies

No benefit cheats

Let's start there and get a 100% agreement on that and then move forward

Other countries have PROVED that putting public money behind deserving individuals is a fantastic public investment

eg the UK gov paid me £70 a week in grant for 2 years and then I paid £24k per year tax for decades

Even Rand Paul could figure out that this was a great investment

Same with much of the infrastructure

Who wants to bring there money to a State that is going to tax them to death. This sort of tax the wealthy into oblivion mentality will cause people to leave and prevent people from moving to California.

This started with you trying use this prop 13 as the reason California is going to hell in a handbag.

Prop 13 is one of the primary reasons why California is at the point where it is now, although the country's economic recession didn't help either. If you follow California's politics, you'll know about the district meandering that has essentially divided the state up between Democratic and Republican districts. Even though the state legislature has a Democratic majority, a simple majority is not enough to pass any raising of taxes. It doesn't take a Harvard economist to predict what kind of budget problems this would create over time.

As for raising taxes on the wealthy - the state Democrats have proposed raising it from 9.2% to 11% on the wealthiest 10% in the state. The Right claiming that the wealthy will leave the state is just silly fear mongering, but anyway, they don't need to worry because without a super majority, the tax increase will never pass.
