I think it has to be either an emergency or that you are traveling fairly shortly. I am not sure if either office offers that service but if you do a google search for the passport offices, I am sure that can give you more information.

Yep pretty sure you need to provide a valid plane ticket outside of the US as proof...

Its all here http://travel.state.gov/passport/npic/agencies/agencies_913.html along with the requirements.

Thought about holding off on my wife's passport until we purchased tickets not to risk mailing off her US citizen certificate. But for us, a rather expensive two day trip to downtown Chicago, risk of a major traffic jam, flat tire, whatever, then, not only will we not get her passport, but would be stuck with the plane tickets as well. The cost could well exceed the price of a new certificate, so figure, they can get us one way or the other.

We did get her certificate back in exactly the same condition we sent it, considered that to be good luck, but still don't know why they don't even trust their own agents.

Thanks lissa04, warlord I sure did google it before posting, I was just hoping to find someone who would share his/her experience with me. And sure NickD did.

Thanks NickD, I have my itinary and my travel plan is 2 days exactly from the day the passport request would be submitted. I don't know mind paying the extra fee. Just want to get the passport ASAP.

And LoL@ We did get her certificate back in exactly the same condition we sent it, considered that to be good luck, but still don't know why they don't even trust their own agents.<=== You are getting me worried with such a statement.

Atlanta doesn't have a passport office so you can't get a same day passport here.

“...Isn't it splendid to think of all the things there are to find out about? It just makes me feel glad to be alive--it's such an interesting world. It wouldn't be half so interesting if we knew all about everything, would it? There'd be no scope for imagination then, would there?”

Kathryn41,

How can I get an expedited service in Atlanta and how soon they can issue a passport?

Are the private agnecies trustworthy?

The private agencies are trustworthy - they have to be as they are the only options for those places that don't have a Passport Agency office. You can request an expedited passport through one of the private agencies that accept passport applications (most Post Offices have a passport person on staff). The instructions to do so are here: http://travel.state..../hurry_831.html . Here is the link to current processing times - which appears to be 2 to 3 weeks for an expedited passport. http://www.travel.st...ssing_1740.html . If you go to the bottom of the page, however, you will see instructions on what to do if you are travelling in less than 2 weeks. You have to schedule an appointment at one of the official Passport Agency offices in order to get that accomplished.

This link provides more information about emergency travel in less than 2 weeks: http://www.travel.st...where_4851.html Honolulu does have a Passport Agency but the closest one to Atlanta appears to be Washington DC. http://www.travel.st...encies_913.html
