Hello to all my VJ friends,

I missed you all, just got super busy since my fiance (oops my husband now)is here

I am confused about his AOS. We are not getting our marriage certificate until 2 weeks through the mail. Can he still get a SS number? I am really lost any help would be appreciated. Is there something that we can

get started while we wait.

marriage certificate has nothing to do with one's eligibility to apply for SSN... A K-1 is eligible to apply up to day 76 of entry in the USA. If you miss that then he needs wait until approved EAD or GC

YMMV

Starlight! Great to see you back! I missed you. The SSN is dependent on legal status, so if his I-94 is about to expire, they will not issue it now. Once you have the EAD card, you can get the ssn with that. I only had to show my marriage certificate because I changed my name after marriage and wanted my ssn in my legal name. (I am the US citizen). Good luck with AOS!

Thank you Menina for your response it was helpful. Glad to be back :). I am glad that he still can get his SS number. His visa doesnot expire until mid September. So, I guess we still have some time.
