OT is purely for entertainment. Does it really matter that I post while running a statistical model? I didn't think so, but aparently, some find it a bad thing to post a lot. Oh well, I don't care.

If all states had the same tax laws, this wouldn't be a problem. We are one country after all.

But not one state. .......I do agree to a certain extent about your take on state taxes. All 50 states should adopt the no state income tax that is currently held by 9 states. Massachusetts residents got to vote twice in elections about getting rid of their state income taxes. They voted against it both times. By 70-30. Shocking I must say.

How many of you wouldn't have done the same thing? If Orange County had lower car registration fees than Los Angeles County, I'd register my car there. Los Angeles county has higher sales taxes than most, so where is all the outrage at all the people who go to neighboring counties to save a full percent on sales tax?

In Texas, the car issue is a moot point. State sales tax here is 6.25% but the cities/counties can each add 1% of they like. Obviously somebody buying a new car could save money by buying the car in another county. TX got around that by simply stating that the sales tax on cars is 6.25% regardless of where you live in the state.

A common tax shelter is for people who live in California to buy and register their car in Oregon (no sales tax). Not much is needed. Show some gas station receipts from Oregon every year and you're pretty much good to go.

I promise you, I would have done the same thing. Then I would have written a letter to the Boston Globe and said "Here...pound it in your @SS! I am not paying your stinking tax!, Signed, Senator Gary"

But then I wouldn't be voting in favor of taxes all over the place, telling OTHER people they need to pony up thier fair share. Heck, I QUIT SMOKING to protest taxes! Everyone would know me as the Senator that tries to get the hogs away from the trough, by emptying the trough! I would be a hypocrite TO pay the tax. The scandal headline would be "Tax Crusader actually PAYS tax he vowed to fight" My Senate office would publish brochures every year on legal ways to avoid taxes, Federal, State and local.

Kerry is an @sshole because he DOES what all of us would do (and what whole bunches of other people in MA do) but then says we should pay more (spare me the top 2% BS and show me a tax Kerry didn't vote for, if you took ALL the money the top 2% make it wouldn't feed the Democrat pigs, not to mention the Republican pigs, for two days).

MA passes these laws and RUNS BUSINESS OUT of the state. Runs out the boat builders. Runs out the boat buyers, runs out the people that make a living doing this and the taxes they pay to the city or state and then look around and say "what happened?" They need to wake up, pull their head out of their @ss and realize that surrounding states are scarfing up billions in business because of their self destructive tax practice. New Hamshire survives without an income tax OR sales tax because of the MA residents that spend billions there. What a joke. In case they didn't notice, MA is really small. Much smaller than Vermont in size. Heck, you are never more than 30 minutes drive from a tax haven. Who would even think of buying a washing machine, refrigerator, lawn tractor, windows, doors, kitchen cabinets, new suit, in MA when you can save $100 or $200 to drive a few minutes to New Hampshire? Hundreds of thousands of people do it, MA loses billions! And what do they propose? RAISE sales tax! #######!!!!!!!!!

The best way for a state or country to make money is to get someone ELSE to drop money in your economy and not ask for services in return. But in order to do that, you have to MAKE STUFF people want to pay money for. If you tax business and people that create jobs, they will move their jobs to India, China, Vietnam, etc. They will basically do what Kerry...take business eleswhere. The best jobs we lose to foreigners that never come to this country.

Who in their right mind will pay $500,000 in tax and get nothing in return? ** THAT! I'll buy another boat...from a company in Rhode Island.
