I FINALLY checked out this store called ''World Market'' the other day and while they didn't have anything particurally Canadian, they had a TON of chocolate from the UK that is usally found in Canada. I got away with Kinder and Nestle <3 yumm. Still havent been able to find Ketchup chips and when I ask, I get funny looks =[

gah we used to have a world market here ! I miss that store.. they had all the good teas and stuff and all the neat candys. But it went out of business just as quickly as it opened... it was annoying.. I dont know if its the people that live here or what but whenever I went to the store people would look/peer in the doors but never go in!

We buy the giant brand low fat milk, it does not have HFCS in it, thankfully.

Whenever we get to Houston to visit Joe's family we go to the World Market there. The one that was near to us closed a few years ago. I love World Market - I still have a package of Dutch salt licourice that I just love from my last visit there! I also love Whole Foods but the nearest one to us is about an hour's drive away in North Atlanta so we don't get there very often (I try to deal with Atlanta traffic as little as possible).

I love Whole Foods too, and we're really lucky to have one about ten minutes down the road. My only regret is that Whole Foods bears the brunt of all the yuppie, snob, elitist, omg you eat organic?! jokes because of its (admittedly marked up) prices. It's annoying trying to explain to my coworkers why I willingly shop at WF - they think I just like to drop tons of money on food, I just like it because their service and quality of food is what I'm more used to from back home.

The other place we like to shop at is Wegmans (also nearby!), but we still run mostly around their organic section. Even their house bakery uses HFCS in it, which is frightening... I mean, don't in-house bakeries have more control over that sort of thing?

As to the clothes issue... I'm a tiny, tiny person who has always had difficulty in finding clothes, no matter where I am, and I'm resigned to poking through kids' sections for non-glittery work clothes here, so I completely feel your pain :)

Hehehe I've found clothes that fit me in the girls' clothing section too - and I'm not tiny, tiny! I'm not even tiny :) . I know what you mean about 'glittery', though. The sizes are definitely different between Canada and the US. I have clothes I used to wear in Canada when I was in my 20s and 30s (hey, they were favourites and I can be a bit of a pack rat!). I can get into them sort of - but it is not a pretty sight  ! The thing is they are the same 'size' or even one size larger than the clothes I am now wearing here in the US - which sometimes border on being too big, especially at the waist.

I did see something that made me laugh a few days ago though - a pair of size 2 pants on the thrift store rack with the original sales tag still on them that read 'With the guaranteed fit to make you look more slender" ! and I had to laugh. It seems incongruous to think that someone wearing a size 2 worries about looking more slender :P .

About clothes... If you go to better stores, you'll find better quality clothes. You'll find jeans that fit properly and all of that stuff. There are tons of stores that sell the proper fitting jeans.... you just may have to spend a little more.

Banana Republic for example is a great place if you're looking for slimmer fits. They're a little pricey but not insane. It all depends on the store.

Yea, that's the flip side of what I do for clothes. The BR outlet store (all outlet stores, really) is amazing if you're willing to fight the crowds and shop out of season. I also comb things at Urban Outfitters and American Eagle since they actually have my size there :P

It's funny when I tell people around here about places like the bulk barn, they're a little grossed out by people being around large bins of food that they can just put their arms in and scoop out food. They first thing they ask is: "How do you know someone hasn't done something to it?" or "That doesn't sound sanitary!"

I never know how to answer that... I never thought about it.

I just love getting a pound of wasabi peas every time I go to Canada.

Haha yes! actually I've looked up Whole Foods and the closest ones to me are in Oakville and Toronto  (and I've lived both places and never knew such a store existed because they had bulk barns.. may as well just go to NF and the bulk barns there if I'm going into Canada, which I can't yet). Wegman's I haven't checked out, only went there once with my husband for their subs and didn't look at the actual store. Tops has a decent bulk/organic section but it's still barely a fraction of what you'd find at bulk barn!

 I hope you mentioned that you use stainless steel scoops to get the food out and NOT your arms.. hahaha I would love to see someone doing that.

Yea I told them that there's scoops. No one around here thinks that sounds like a place they would want to shop at. Every single time I have talked about it, they're just really grossed out by the idea regardless.

I so miss the bulk barn as well. I do some cake decorating and they were the best for buying things for that. They carry a different brand of fondant, and IMO it is a lot better tasting and better to work with than the wilton stuff....and half the price!! They generally have a big selection of pans as well, a lot more than Michaels and again....better prices. They also carry a small selection of British foods, and have this Yorkshire pudding mix that is the BEST. I stocked up on a bunch of stuff when I was home last month!!
