Did they really? I couldn't find anything about that, but to be honest, I try not to pay too much about what's going on back there. All I saw was an updated city logo on their website. Vaughan was pretty nice, or at least the town I lived in. Mind you, the town was integrated and is now just a "community" but it was big enough to still register to me as a town.

yea it was the last time I was up it was on the news... I don't know what's wrong with being the city above Toronto. It's like how I still call Collingswood, Barrie and Orillia VR-land and I'll never stop even though VR news ended years ago.

Awww... Just stumbled on a Toronto Star article. They just removed the motto and redid the logo.

http://www.thestar.com/news/gta/article/830168--vaughan-is-no-longer-the-city-above-toronto

Now I am sad. Not just to hear about things being changed, but also in reading how big Vaughan has grown. Things are getting better there; growth means more opportunities. The town I live in now is the total opposite. I'd be lucky if I could get any job. Heck, my resume will be even worse off than a high schooler's applying for their first job. I'm foreign, I only worked a part-time job (five years ago) and any of my references will be family or friend related - no former employers or even teachers. Mind you, I still am working towards AOS, so I'm thinking ahead.

I would've not been in a stellar position if I had not moved, but I would have been less useless than I am here right now.

I also have memories of VR-land, even though they're rather disjointed due to my age and location. I remember hearing "VR-land" and maybe a television channel but not much more.

People are all too quick to label others as "depressed", or even themselves.

And "professionals", i.e. doctors, are quick to medicate because that is the Western way, and how they have been trained.

For example, see a surgeon, and they want to cut; see a psychiatrist and their job is to put you in a box, and to prescribe pills. etc etc etc...

We all know Prozac has failed and only caused more depression, more suicides.

So, yes, I am not a pro and I do not have authority over any one else and their decision making.

I do a lot of research.

My own levels of emotional depths and heights are off the charts, and I have experimented with what heals me, because I made that my priority.

I work each day to find balance, and I do not succeed all the time.

No expectations.

I just try to be with what is...always in process.

This is why things like yoga and dancing where I have to be full present help tremendously.

Moment by moment.

This is a long conversation....and over some words strung together on these posts cannot reach the true heart of it.

I may be sorry I tried.

Or not.

Pro or not, I am just saying people are saying: "Pills help" "You sound depressed" or "Pills don't help - don't take them" and I think those are dangerous waters to tread in. None of us should be suggesting anything like that is all.

I personally don't agree with medications either, but what is good for the goose isn't always good for the gander and what works for one doesn't work for all.

Yanno what I'm sayin?

That is a stereotype, and a patently false one at that.

I get what you're saying Sprailenes.

I would have to know the person for years and have some deep history with them to be able to even attempt to deduce any real conclusion.

True.

Things we each say are taken from our life's experience, and that is all.

Yes, even the gross over-stereotyping Rob. Hahaha!

Forgive me.

Yes. My mother is a complementary health care provider, and agrees with me and my doctor that it's time for me to try this. Don't assume that I am following conventional medicine like a lemming.

I was from "The City Above Toronto". I took everything for granted and only realize this after moving away. Technically, we were integrated into the GTA, but I did not feel as such living in my old town. I liked getting out into Toronto and am so sad that I did not do it more often. Too much regret though, and that will just bring me down. :\

Where abouts?

I grew up in Woodbridge.

True... So true! Oh how I miss Wonderland. I am sure the place has changed too, just like everything else has.

I grew up in Woodbridge.

I as well. Excuse me while I get misty-eyed! I always hated Woodbridge for being full of stereotypical people in my age bracket, poor public transit, et cetera... Oh, how wonderful Woodbridge seems now. The year after I move away, the public transit is overhauled, expansion all around! All of the recreation centers there, but none here whatsoever! Night and day in comparison. Woodbridge is getting so expensive, I doubt I could ever afford to buy a home there if for whatever reason we could or did move back. I miss the development I grew up in - having sidewalks and quiet roads (aside from ginos speeding once in a while at night!) I miss having a corner store within walking distance, and actually being in a safe enough area to feel comfortable walking. There are no parks here. Ugh... Night and day. :(

Okay. I think I can now deal with the horror of having my post disappear. lol. Let's try this again. This is the Reader's Digest version. <_<

What a lovely thread. This is what I miss most about being separated from my Canadian friends..... having someone to confide your innermost feelings to without fear of being judged or ridiculed or made to feel bad for feeling that way. I find that being able to share with people who understand helps to ease the burden. I hope those of you who are in pain are feeling that too. (F)

I had a terrible time adjusting when I first moved here. Not only to being separated from my friends and family, but adjusting to marriage too. lol. Having to reestablish yourself while you are still vulnerable and reeling from the move is a cruel joke. The first year was hell. The second year I was able to adjust and had just a few minor tweeks to make. The third year I settled in just fine. Now the fourth year we have moved to a new State and I am having to go through that nonsense all over again, albeit without the separation and anxiety of leaving my Canadian home.

I feel so terrible for those of you who cannot make it home when you need to, and I hope that you will be able to as soon as possible. I find it really helps with the adjustment process. Things back home really change while you are gone, and you are able to see it through the eyes of someone who has also changed..... yourself.

Much love and big hugs to all of you. (F)

You had better be consuming copious amounts of Timmy's!

:D

I hope you're having a blast, in all seriousness!

Haha. I got here late last night and was there first thing this morning getting an x-large (I thought I'd need it but I didn't. lol) and a toasted everything bagel with garlic herb cream cheese and tomato. Yum.

I've written long things before and have had problems. There was a way to recover text written in these fields (when using Firefox) if not mistaken, but I can't recall and I'm a bit too tired to start Googling. It should be doable to some extent, though!

Thanks. That was kind of like a virtual hug. lol
