I agree. The cost, for the speed that technology changes these days, is too high.

I foresee GM reducing the price steadily once this pilot sales period is over. Remember it hasn't hit all 50 states yet- only 7 will be selling it at first.

Some states offer incentives for early-adopters. In California, to stimulate the sales of hybrids, they offered to allow people who bought hybrids to drive in the commuter lane which is normally reserved for carloads of 2 or 3 only. Some cities, like Los Angeles for a short time offered free street parking on streets where there were parking meters.

are you looking at it relative to the platform each device is located? Probably not.

think back to what VCRs cost in the 70s and think what BluRay players cost now.

now compare $41K for a car now to what it will cost once the technology is in full market use.

for that matter, i can think back to what a new vehicle cost in the early 70's - about 4k. nowadays 30+k isn't unusual.

It would be nice to see GM do something more on the private side... not involve public government more than what is already misconceived to be Government Motors setting the price.

Improve maintenance guarantees for early buyers? Etc.

Wishing you ten-fold that which you wish upon all others.

And what was early 1970s $4K in today dollars?

Depends on who you ask, but that's between $18K and $54K. Take the middle road of the calculations and you get $36K.

Wishing you ten-fold that which you wish upon all others.

Japanese make better car than Americans. Even if the Japanese cars are made in America by Americans. Noone is going to blame you for being anti-American if you buy Japanese car because they provide value. Remember we live in a capitalistic and globalised world where we are meant to go with the best value for our buck. If you fancy yourself a FORD, buy it. If you fancy yourself a TOYOTA, buy that. There's not anti-Americanism or anti-Patriotism involved here. And thank you for keeping things in perspective. You are a beacon of light amid your herd of sheep.

and Chevrolet has been saying volt would cost $40,000 (USD) since day one. The price went up just $1,000. This is hardly a shocker. But with rebates, it cost far less than that.

A lot of your electricity comes from hydro-dams and nuclear plants. Not all of it comes from coal fired plants. We should bild more nuclear plants and get rid of all the coal plants. Coal isn't clean.

To me the biggest reason I don't want an electric car is because I like my big V8. Color me an old ####### but I just want to hear and feel that power when I stomp on the peddle. This new fangled stuff is for my grandkids to make popular.

If you need a V8 like in truck for hauling that makes sense, but if you're driving around in an 8 cylinder Mustang, you're more a wimp than a #######.
