Hi guys,

I hope everyone is doing good and enjoying the heat !!

Im a K-1 fiance from England and im in the middle of sorting out the paperwork for my AOS to send off once we are married (the wedding is saturday and we pick up my family from the airport later tonight !!)

Now back home I had to goto London to Knightsbridge for my medical exam (which we all had to do in here i imagine) I had required vaccinations, an x-ray and a physical. Everything went well otherwise i wouldnt be living in the states now !! With my AOS package I have to send in form i-693, Report of Medical Examination and Vaccination Record, which needs to be completed and signed by a Civil Surgeon and form DS-3025 (which i received from Knightsbridge)

According to the forms instructions because I am a K visa non immigrant i dont require another medical exammination, just part 1 (Information About You), part 2 (Vaccination Record) and part 5 (Civil Surgeon Certificate) need to be completed by the Surgeon, signed, sealed in an envelope and given back to me to send in with my AOS package.

I have just come back from a surgeons office and they said that i need another medical exam because i dont have "physical proof" except the DS-3025 form but that is just a vaccination record. The only proof that my medical exam was ok is in the "DO NOT OPEN" envelope I gave to the Immigration officer at my POE.

My fiancee is going to phone her family practice on thursday and see if her family doctor is a civil surgeon to complete the forms because he might understand it better.

What shall I do? Print out the instructions and show them what it says and that i dont need another medical exam?

I really appreciate the help guys,

JmR

P.S. If this topic is in the wrong section im sorry

Hi,

If you look at the instructions of the form I-693 in section III FAQ#2 if you were admitted as a K-1 and received a medical prior to admission then you are not required to have another as long as your form I-485 is filed within 1 year of your medical exam (as long as you did not have a class A medical condition). You will neeed to proove that you complied with the vaccination requirements (ie. your immunization record). A civil surgeon needs only to complete section 5 of the vaccination section. Hope that helps...

My AOS took 10 months, 6 months longer than the average at the time, because the Medical Documents were lost somewhere between JFK and USCIS. I was never truly sure if it was because they misplaced/lost it or because I was meant to send it again with AOS (although I am sure its the former). I had to get a 2nd medical done at my own expense but as soon as i sent it in they approved me in a flash. I don't beleive you need to send anything other than the vaccination record with your AOS package but if you have a spare $300 you dont need then send it me at you might want to get another done as insurance. Otherwise, what hendea3 said.

Call around and find a Civil Surgeon who will do the vaccination part for $25-$50. Prices vary greatly as does the knowledge of the K visa process by CSs. Most applicants for AOS require a medical so the K visa holder is a tiny minority not known to the CS who doesn't keep up with his stuff. There is a thread in the AOS forums called "Civil Surgeons who won't (dont? maybe) rip you off." Maybe somebody has listed a good one in your area.

A few other comments:

I had required vaccinations, an x-ray and a physical. Everything went well otherwise i wouldnt be living in the states now !!

You can get a visa without having all the required immunizations. You can have zero and still come to the US. You can't adjust status however. Just wanted to point out that alot of people think they got all the required shots or they wouldn't have gotten a visa. Most adults need MMR, Tdap (or Td) and Varicella or a history of chickenpox noted on their DS3025 by a "VH" written beside that line.

Exactly correct.

With my AOS package I have to send in form i-693, Report of Medical Examination and Vaccination Record, which needs to be completed and signed by a Civil Surgeon and form DS-3025

You don't have to send both. The I-693 is enough. But FYI, we sent only the DS-3025 and got approved with no problem or RFE. You have to be certain you have all the shots recorded that I mentioned above. Husband did not see a Civil Surgeon. Many others did the same. But as rumors abound, and November filers started all getting RFEs (even ones who sent I-693) the buzz came to be to send both. Nobody official has said to do that. There was a changeover last fall in the contractors who open the applications and sort the paperwork. They weren't ordering the A-file for the K visa holders. That's the brown envelope stuff you turned in that has to be married up with your AOS application. That seems to be sorted out now.

I still think it's possible to do it without the I-693. AND of course you have to be certain you've got the right shots recorded on your DS3025. I was tired of spending money

and thought it was ridiculous to pay somebody to copy a list that I knew was complete. I figured we'd spend the money if and when they informed us the DS3025 wasn't enough. A delay of a couple of weeks on the green card wouldn't really change our day to day life at all since we were together. Not the same as being an ocean apart when the wait and delays make you go insane. Your choice what you want to send, I only mention our experience and something I followed and researched quite closely, as another thing to consider.

What shall I do? Print out the instructions and show them what it says and that i dont need another medical exam?

A lot of people do that, but they still won't believe them. It's worth a try.
