I like the suggestions Jeanne and Aya offer Wonderful. Delegating is what I need to do in my house because I'm doing it all. Ok I have to admit my Husband has been really good about helping when I ask him to. Like he takes the trash out every Sunday & helped me vacuum and sweep and wipe the counters down and chop veggies when company is coming over for dinner.

In my family we had this rule before my Husband came that who ever makes the food doesn't have to do the dishes or clean up. However, I'm doing it all most of the time.

Aya dh gets tahina from the Middle East Market here. Then he adds ground cumin, salt, pepper and lemon juice I think. I'm not really certain exactly how he makes it but it's one of his favorites and he really misses his bread here. Also that white cheese from there that is so popular. His sister said she found it in Baltimore but it's expensive for like $18. It's imported here so of course it's going to be more expensive then back home.

I will have to ask in the Middle-Eastern store in our town then. I love Tahina with BBQ!

I have a confession to make...other than cream cheese and the yellow American cheese, I don't like any other kind of cheese I tasted here in the US (and I tasted many: Feta, 4 different flavors of The Laughing Cow spread cheese, Ricota, Gouda, Cheddar, White cheese, Mozzerella, white cheese with jalapeno peppers, Kraft cheese cubes).

I LOVE cheese in general, and I just miss how different every different kind tastes in Egypt. :(

That so funny you mention the cheese thing. Waleed and I went through that too trying to find a cheese similar to his back in Egypt. My Mom was buying him all kinds of cheeses for him to try. We did get a cheese from Egypt at the Near East store but we paid the imported price for it. He was appalled by that because he said it was the cheaper white cheese for Egypt. He also discovered this last week that he liked the cream cheese. LOL! By yellow cheese do you mean cheddar? He's tried the mild, medium, and sharp cheddar. His favorite thing to eat is cheese sandwiches or tomatoes and lettuce.

we've found the white cheese (and the white cheese with green pepper flavoring... barf) at a halal store in Portland, but it's $5-6 per cube. Still cheaper than $18, Olivia! It is shelf-stable, so if you wanted me to I could pack some up in a flat rate box and send it to you :) We like the white cheese with tomato/olive oil/mint/cumin, I could eat that all day if it weren't so salty. Ahmed loves him some cream cheese, but he's ok with pretty much any other kind of cheese, too. I had a harder time with cheese when I was in Egypt, because I love cheddar cheese, and all we could find was not very tasty, even the imported kind. I ended up using processed cheese for omelets and stuff. Yech.

I think Ahmed's been disappointed in my cooking lately, with the baby taking up so much of my time I have a hard time finding when to make anything. Last night I made pasta with ground beef spaghetti sauce and he just looked at it and said he wasn't hungry, then went to work (he works graveyard.) I feel bad, but c'mon, if I'd known he wasn't going to eat I wouldn't have bothered to make anything. Abigail and myself are perfectly happy with PB&J and yogurt for dinner :P

When I was in school full time, he used to fend for himself and make himself and Abigail food... I'd come home to them eating lamb and rice, or liver and rice, or chicken and rice... and salad, of course. :)

I wish I wasn't so ####### about housekeeping otherwise I would delegate more chores. My husband does most of the outside stuff - mowing the lawn, cleaning up after the dogs, taking out garbage, watering the grass and in the winter, shoveling snow. I will pitch in with that but he does most of it. I do nearly all of the indoor stuff and I'm ok with that. What I wish he would do is be a bit neater when he cooks and if he could carry his tea cup/drinking glasses to the sink, that would be awesome. If I ask, he will help out with vaccuming and washing the floors. He is not allowed to do laundry as he'll just throw everything in together instead of seperating. The kids are older yet they are pretty spoiled. I like things done a certain way and I would just go after them and re-do it anyways. I do ask them with help on special projects such as cleaning up the basement. I know I'm creating monsters for future spouses but I just can't help it. Not only with their lack of helping clean but they don't like how anyone cooks besides me. Even simple things like pancakes. I know it must drive their stepmother crazy; it drives their grandmother (my mother) crazy for sure. LOL.

Amy I think that would really make Waleed happy! smile.gif How much is a flat rate box from here to there anyways? Those rice and meat dishes sound delicious.

JVTA I had dh pulling dandelions and other weeds outside and he wouldn't let me take a picture of him. He'd let my Mom take a picture though. no0pb.gif I don't know how he'll react to the snow this winter if he has to shovel it. I had to do it last year and man that is hard back breaking work. It snows a lot here and our neighborhood has an ordinance that you have to shovel your sidewalks and drive way right after every snow fall. Sometimes I was shoveling 3 times a day and it's a 3 car garage drive way.

Yesterday he told me our bedroom floor needed to be vacuumed instead of doing it himself. Right now I'm trying to teach him how to use the dishwasher and do the laundry. We've already had one lesson on the dishwasher but he hasn't followed through with anything I've taught him so far. He does take care of his own tea cup. Now it's my Uncle's drinking glasses that he leaves all over the house that I have to clean up after. Sometimes my Uncle will do all of the dishes if he cooks but that's rarely.

I find it very very wonderful that MENA hubbies are house-cleaning-friendly. :) It might sound silly but i literally can't wait to be united with Rachel in our house and start doing all kinds of chores with her!. It's some sort of (bonding process) that makes you feel like you really are sharing responsibility and duties, and cuts away a lot of small arguments that might arise out of silly things when you are already stressed.

I think they are 8.50 or something like that. pretty reasonable, when packed full of imported cheese! you could probably fit six or so packages of it in a box. so 6 packages for 38.50, assuming each package cost $5. :) better than sixteen bucks each! Let me know if you want to arrange for us to pick you up some, we're probably going to be heading up to the Halal store sometime in the next week or two to pick up some things before Ramadan.

He'll love it for Ramadan. He'll be the only one eating the cheese though. Is 6 of them going to go bad before he can eat them all?
