I'm up really early cooking rice to go with my lunch today. Waleed cooked this mixed vegetable in tomato paste last night and I'm taking some of the leftovers. He wanted to eat Egyptian he said. My Uncle said if he cooked like this every time then they would eat Egyptian all the time. For his vegetables he picked potato, carrot, and onion. Last time he used a frozen mixed vegetables bag. Both were pretty good so far. I'm trying to get him to cook once a week even if it's this.

Sorry to butt in on MENA, I'm up early trying to deal with transferring some money from the UK to the US. But yay, problem solved and some of it has come through. It was worth waking up early.

Have a lovely day everyone x

Good morning, all!

Cleo, the mixed veg in sauce sounds tasty. :)

My husband cooks about once a week which in the summer means manning the grill :D He makes really awesome chicken ghallaba when he's not grilling. He's also good at whipping up un-named concoctions that are really tasty. Now if I could get him to do clean up more regularly.

Have a great day, everyone!

Wow I go to put the baby down for her morning nap and look at all these posts!

Hi mandy have a good day too!

Sharifah my dh is an expert at making the Egyptian salad too. Last night as a side to our dinner he cut up romaine lettuce and seasoned it with salt, pepper and lime juice. It wasn't half bad.

Hi Jeanne! I hope you get rain! :D

JVTA it is delicious. I wish we had a grill though. He also makes tahina salad and a few of those same concoctions your dh makes. I totally agree with you on wishing they would clean up more. I am so sick and tired of doing all the cooking and all the cleaning and having to go to work. Last night I pointed out that his potato and carrot peelings were all over the floor like he didn't even hit the trash can and said this is part where you tell me you're going to clean it up. He said to me how about you clean it up. Bah! He did clean it up later and asked the names for the broom and dust pan. blush.gif

Wonderful I suggest for busy weeks to prepare your food in bulk ahead of time on a weekend when you have the time. I do all my fresh veggie chopping on the weekend so when I get home from work at 6 pm and have to be in bed by 8pm I can just pull something out of the fridge heat it up and eat. Things that are good to have on hand pre-made for the week are brown rice, chopped veggies, various soups, a casserole dish, cut up or prepared fruits, ect.

Hi Ash! Happy Tuesday!

Happy Tuesday all!

This morning we took to the kids to the movies, and now hubby is out fishing. The days pass by a lot faster and easier when he's home.

He usually cooks a day or two a week and I cook the rest of the week, we do the rest of the housework equally (although he always does the vacuuming lol). He usually cooks Italian food.

Olivia, how does Waleed make tahina? Does he make it from scratch?

Hope everyone is having a good day! (F)

How old are your children? Would delegating be an option? Perhaps your family can have a meeting and have

everyone involved to make it less on you, from menu planning to chores. The more you can delegate the more

stress you loose! Good luck!

I agree with Jeanne.

We have a chores chart and a reward chart in our house. The only chores we expect the kids to do for now are: make their beds, put their toys and clothes away, make sure the bathroom is clean after they use it, and read at least one book a day. The reward chart includes: going fishing, getting nails painted, getting ice cream from DQ, choosing a meal they like for the whole family to eat, etc. They only get to get the rewards at the end of the week, with occasional rewards althroughout the week.

We don't expect them to do much now as they are still very young, and they don't stick with the schedule, but knowing there are rules helps them understand what their parents do and gives them a sense of responsibility.

I like the suggestions Jeanne and Aya offer Wonderful. Delegating is what I need to do in my house because I'm doing it all. Ok I have to admit my Husband has been really good about helping when I ask him to. Like he takes the trash out every Sunday & helped me vacuum and sweep and wipe the counters down and chop veggies when company is coming over for dinner.

In my family we had this rule before my Husband came that who ever makes the food doesn't have to do the dishes or clean up. However, I'm doing it all most of the time.

Aya dh gets tahina from the Middle East Market here. Then he adds ground cumin, salt, pepper and lemon juice I think. I'm not really certain exactly how he makes it but it's one of his favorites and he really misses his bread here. Also that white cheese from there that is so popular. His sister said she found it in Baltimore but it's expensive for like $18. It's imported here so of course it's going to be more expensive then back home.
