The City of San Diego is trying to sink future "floatilla" events on San Diego waterways by banning anyone in an inner tube from getting inebriated. The raft ragers, sometimes with as many as 6000 partiers, were an effective loophole for those wanting a beer on the beach and the bay and trying to skirt the January 2009 alcohol ban at city beaches.

On Wednesday, June 30, the Public Safety and Neighborhood Services committee, consisting of councilmembers Tony Young, Todd Gloria, Sherri Lightner, and Marti Emerald, will consider an amendment to the municipal code that would prohibit anyone in inner tubes, rafts, on blow-up mattresses, surfboards, surf mats, or paddleboards from drinking booze within one marine league (three nautical miles) from the shoreline. If the amendment is approved at the committee meeting, the item will go to the full city council for a vote.

it seems, the US has become and is becoming more and more civilized. are we becoming too civilized? i think the gov't wants us to be robots.

when i go anywhere recreational and i see a load of very detailed "no can do" signs.

is it any wonder college students want to get the hell out of the US during spring break? i don't think going to "mexico" is a big deal for students (not a bragging point), but instead it implies "more fun" because they are getting away from the nanny states.

besides wild college students, real post college "fun" in the US without breaking any laws is a difficult task. i wonder if this affect tourism? people go home and tell friends and family that america is boring!

SF's Bay to Breakers, here is another example: "People who plan to booze it up at the next Bay to Breakers could be arrested because race officials are imposing an alcohol ban just in time for the race's 100th birthday next May." http://abclocal.go.com/kgo/story?section=news/local/san_francisco&id=7541155

i'm amazed at how uptight people and gov'ts are getting. is there any end to petty laws? btw, it is against the law to smoke in San Francisco's public parks.

quick emotional response laws tick me off. a 5 year old kid falls down on his bike and suddenly a council member is drawing up an ordinance which can fine parents and put them in jail if their kid isn't wearing a helmet. geez!

San Francisco is not a ######-up place. I mean, you can't select a sugary drink out of their pop machines or smoke outside, buy pets, use plastic bags, etc., but everything else is way cool!

Don't just open your mouth and prove yourself a fool....put it in writing.

It gets harder the more you know. Because the more you find out, the uglier everything seems.

All you people hate on California because it's the Mecca of Liberalism and Progressivism. Right? You're against liberal and progressive ideals such as freedom of speech, etc?

In Russia, 1200 people drowned recently. A vast majority of them were drunks and had access to alcohol near water. Thanking San Diego for banning such things near water. Good on you San Diego. I support you fully.

Why didn't they just ban swimming instead?

We hate Cali because it is the Granola state....full of fruits, nuts, and flakes. ;)

I told my parents not to come because the ID everyone who orders alcohol law is going to offend them. I get offended and I've been ID'd all my life, the difference was it was only because I looked under 25 so it was flattering.

i live in california and feel like i'm walk on eggshells when i leave my house. way too many petty rules and laws.

california is trying too much to save people from themselves. can't smoke in a public park, you would have ever thought they'd get so picky especially in wild liberal (i'm not a smoker, btw).

and ha ha ha, "progressive ideals such as freedom of speech" isn't exactly progressive these days. that was progressive 230 years ago.

Free Speech

No army in the towns

No cruel or inhuman punishments

Right to bear arms

Seem familiar ?

Progressive stuff indeed...

I like to go to the State Park on Whidbey Island north of Seattle - on the cliff there is a sign which says falling from the cliff could result in injury

It's superb !
