Zipped up binder OK to bring to MTL consulate?

Hello All

I was just wondering if anyone ever had a problem with bringing a zipped up binder to the Montreal Consulate?

Mine is a five star binder, ring size is 2 and binder size is about 13.5 X 12 Inches..and right about now it's looking kinda plump..lol maybe around 3.5/4 inches think, but it looks so pretty and all labeled..hahaha..

Wasn't sure if it would be a problem or not. The binder is just for further original evidence of our relationship. I have all our paperwork they will want to see in a separate file folder.

Just want some reassurance that a zip up binder of this size would be ok...

I have no personal experience, but since you're able to quickly unzip and show them it's contents I would think it's no different then a purse honestly. Folks bring all manner of folders, ziplocs etc.... I had about 2-3 separate xlarge ziplocs containing organized folders for all my "stuff".

I'm sure that will be fine! I used a plastic accordion binder. They just don't want huge bags and NO elecroics of any kind, that includes car key chains!!

Canadians Visiting the USA while undergoing the visa process, my free advice:

1) Always tell the TRUTH. never lie to the POE officer

2) Be confident in ur replies

3) keep ur response short and to the point, don't tell ur life story!!

4) look the POE officer in the eye when speaking to them. They are looking for people lieing and have been trained to find them!

5) Pack light! No job resumes with you

6) Bring ties to Canada (letter from employer when ur expected back at work, lease, etc etc)

7) Always be polite, being rude isn't going to get ya anywhere, and could make things worse!!

8) Have a plan in case u do get denied (be polite) It wont harm ur visa application if ur denied,that is if ur polite and didn't lie! Refer to #1

It should be fine - I had a plastic clear see-through sectioned folder for originals that fit into a binder that contained plastic covered copies of everything else, that closed with a fold over top and a metal clasp. Everything like that will go through the metal detectors so shouldn't be a problem. Don't bring a big purse, though, nor keys that have an automatic lock for the car, nor a cell phone with camera abilities.

A random side note, one of the girls interviewing in Montreal when I was there tried to bring one of those hallmark cards that plays music through security, and they took it! Apparently a card that plays music is an electronic device. I found that pretty funny!

I have that binder too. It was the biggest I could find that did what I needed. With the length of our relationship and all the supporting documents I have between emails, pictures, reciepts, boarding passes, phone logs, chat logs ... I needed a big one. I never thought it could be a concern come consulate time ... >.<

I doubt it would be though, Im taking mine ... Im heading to Vancouver though ... let me know if Montreal had any issues.

I had one of those cards as well, and they made me 'check' it. They gave me a ticket so that I could pick it up on my way out!!

Thank you all for your replies :) I will be bringing my five star binder along with my 13 section file folder and a picture album. Since FireKari didn't seem to have any problems with bringing a tote, I might do the same so it's easier to carry everything in. Hopefully all will go well. If they don't let us bring in the tote, we will just take everything out and carry it.
