Interesting.

Yes I have seen things about smuggling people over borders, poor living or work conditions, etc. I have not seen or learned as much about whoever is the one in charge of doing it all and how they exploit. I guess the coyote as you say.

Oh, and you should be answering too since you asked us! Or did you already somewhere?

Who is more despicable? A man who employs an illegal immigrant or a man who employs a prostitute?

The more I think about it, the more there is in common.

1. It is illegal for an undocumented immigrant to work. It is also illegal for a woman to prostitute herself.

2. Economic desperation is a powerful driver of behavior in both cases.

3. Both prostitutes and illegal immigrants are prone to abuse and exploitation.

4. Employed illegal immigrants disrupt healthy labor markets; prostitutes often disrupt healthy relationships.

5. There are well organized criminal enterprises at work arranging supply of both prostitutes and illegal immigrants.

6. Neither illegal immigrants nor prostitutes pay taxes on their earnings. Both send their children to public schools and otherwise consume taxpayer-funded resources like public libraries and interstate highways.

I'm sure there's more. So VJ ... who's more despicable? And why?

I don't really have a problem with either one, as both are common enough in the area.

BTW, prostitution is regulated in certain counties in Nevada, and a few other "unofficially" sanctioned locations, so some of your premises are not universal, or even generally accepted as factual.

My mind is open. I'm not convinced either is despicable.

Prostitution is illegal in most populated parts of this country. I addressed this a few posts ago, see my reference to unicorns.

I live in the most populous state. Put that in your pipe and smoke it! They are harder on the johns for soliciting, than they are on the whores in this state. Both offenses are C&R, basically a little more severe than traffic tickets.

When you have marijuana "dispensaries" all over the state, then law enforcement is a joke, unless you get caught drunk driving, looking at kiddie porn, or killing somebody.

If we have to spend a lot of money on a date to get the babe to put out does that make her a prostitute?

You make it sound like having marijuana dispensaries are a bad thing.

How do you know? Hell might actually be real cold.

You know what, you're right so I now have an open mind and I am not convinced hell is either hot or cold. Hmmm. It could be lukewarm in general.

6. Neither illegal immigrants nor prostitutes pay taxes on their earnings. Both send their children to public schools and otherwise consume taxpayer-funded resources like public libraries and interstate highways.

That's not accurate.

Researchers estimate that 55%–60% of illegal immigrants are paid on the books. The proportion is higher in factories and service industries, lower in agriculture. Even the anti-immigration Center for Immigration Studies uses the figure 55% in its work.

Illegal immigrants do not file tax returns, so we do not know what their income tax liabilities would be or who among the non-filers are illegal immigrants. But we do know something about their Social Security contributions, which, unlike the progressive income tax liabilities, are deducted at a flat rate from the very first dollar earned.

In fact, about $6 billion in annual payroll taxes are allocated to non-existent Social Security accounts. Experts attribute these payments to the forged documents that illegal immigrants purchase in order to find work. This $6 billion is collected each year with no future benefit-rights assigned. This sum is certainly more than any income taxes that would be owed on the earnings involved. (We know that the bottom half of wage earners pay much more in payroll taxes than in income taxes.) In any case, it is probable that the income taxes withheld from the wages of illegal immigrants also would in large measure be refunded because of the low earnings of these workers.
