Personally I would never recommend getting any tickets until you have your visa in hand. You never know what might happen in the meantime. But if you absolutely feel you must get one first, there would be no problem with that. I just think what a waste of time and money it would be if something unforeseen were to happen and you would not have your visa in hand when your flight was due to take off. Wait until you have it...then book your tickets.

BTW, AP is advanced parole...once you are married and file for your adjustment of status (AOS), you can also apply for your AP which would allow you to leave the country and return with no problems. Once you are here on your K1, if you leave the US, you will not be able to return without your green card or AP.

I do agree with you. Dont buy the ticket until visa in our hand. Even interview still gambling.

hi

if you want to come in the same plane you can buy your tickets the way you considere more convenient for you.

the problem when you come with a k-1 visa is that you'll never know when you will be allowed to travel outside USA. even with an AP it takes time to be aproved ( 100 days aprox.)

but as far as i know, best prices can be found with a round ticket and sometimes is better to buy a round trip ticket and pay later an additional amount to use it whenever you like it.

keep on your mind, that nowadays most airlanes need to know from you that you are not going to fly and pay latter the additionalamount if you dont do that they can cancel your ticket and you can lose ticket and is needed to by a new one

DO NOT GET A ROUND TRIP TICKET! I did this when I brung my wife here. When she did not get on the flight in the United States it canceled he ticket intirely. I was only credited 50% on a new ticket in her name flying back. I was confused also when I bought our tickets and everyone said it did not matter. It does, take if from someone that had to pay an extra $800 to learn this.

it doesn't matter, so what if the return ticket gets cancelled?? I think the point everyone is making is that if there is a cheaper flight using a round trip than a one way you grab the round trip with no intention of using the return flight.

oddly the cheapest flights I can find are one-way so it isn't a big deal for me

I have purchased all tickets through cheapoair.com, They will allow you to schedual return flights up to 11 months from date of purchase. RT ticket is not needed to assure you are on same flight, it is not even needed to select POE. In there system you may select from many available flights, you may simply select flight for your fiance(e) that matches your return flight. Assuring you are sitting next to onethanother is a different story. This depends on how full the flight is and how sad your puppy dog eyes are  For my trip on the 10th i purchased OW from here and then purchased two OW tickets from major airline for the return and saved 300$. shop around and you will see by changing departure dates and times, days of the week and so on, you can find tix for deep discounts. If i had purchased RT for both with no garentee she would be able to return 11 months later bye- bye 800$. point is who the heck knows what the USCIS will dream up next to make the process more difficult. Don't waste your money on a RT if you can help it. It will be money better spent on a nice little get away for the two of you once they are here.

I meant 1-way trip. I didn't mean to confuse you. The other poster clarified everything. As long as you intend on coming to marry its cool. You can buy as many tickets as you want. More $ for the airlines, there is no connection between that and immigration. Best of luck with your interview!

One way trip - one way ticket what is the difference. You mean what you meant before. The K1 visa holder can come with whatever they want 1 way ticket or 2 way ticket no difference

Perhaps there is some misunderstand as to what the OP is asking. As I understand it, the OP is asking if they can purchase a RT ticket on a K1 visa, if it is cheaper, without the intention of ever using the trip back. YES, you can. We did this as did many other people on VJ. For us, flying my (then fiance) husband from Holland to the US, was MUCH cheaper buying RT, without the intention of ever using the trip back, than buying a one way, IT HAS NO EFFECT ON YOUR K1 VISA. You can't leave the country once you are here without your green card or AP anyway. So, you lose the second ticket...So what? If it is cheaper...go for it.

We didn't call the airlines, or anyone else to let them know he wasn't going to use it, he just missed the flight. Didn't cost us a dime more, and nobody really cares that we didn't show up at the airport. Jeez, probably made some standby flyer very happy.

it's possible a round trip ticket could come back to bite you in the tail after you apply for AOS. This is what happened in this case:

http://www.visajourney.com/forums/topic/255674-denial-of-aos-due-to-inaccurate-info/

Apparently, USCIS found out about the round trip ticket and presumed the applicant had actually left the country, with no record of returning legally. They approved the I-130, but denied the I-485 on that basis.

Your mistake was buying a ticket which originated in the US. The return portion is always canceled when the outbound portion isn't used.

However, if anyone wants to buy a RT ticket which they use the OUTBOUND portion for his/her travel, that is cool. Meaning, originating in the K-1s country.

Also agree with belluco86 calling BS on Mr Tee's misinformation....one way, one trip...no difference.

More $ for the airlines? No, usually a RT tick is cheaper, thus the point of this thread. Duh

I found out that round trip tickets are open for a year so if you decide to return to your country, you can use that. It'll save you some money plus they're usually cheaper than one way tickets.

Have a safe trip! good.gif
