as for facebook, not everybody has a page. many of us have real friends, so don't have much use for facebook.

as for the poster's comments as transcribed in the OP. this is not "hate speach". it is a condemnation of a sad reality. it's easy for wealthy liberals to bash people who tell the truth about slum life, as they don't have to endure it in their neighborhoods. i have long been a proponent of the concept that those who scream "RACIST!!!" should have to open their homes to some from the "ethnically challenged underclass" for a few weeks.

Why is 'facebook' somehow worse or different to interacting online in other ways, exactly? You post on message boards - are they more 'real'?

It's interesting really when you think about it.

Anonymity is one of the greatest things we could ever be given as a society. It's why we vote the way we do instead of raising our hands to who we want to be our elected officials.

The moment you take away that anonymity from people, the moment you start controlling the flow of things even more. If people have an anonymous voice, they're more willing to show their 'true face' so to speak about what they believe and what they don't believe, no matter how offensive to some they may be.

The way many people act in front of mixed company, their 'friends,' and family might be completely different from their real feelings on the world and how they feel about society and our laws in general.

I think that the anonymity is very important, otherwise with our voices squelched by our own fear of one another, then it takes away from things. That's how tyrants are born because of lack of such a voice.

It's why we support super heroes like Batman and Spiderman. While they may be normal on the outside in their own ways, they get to be something completely different when they put on their mask and people cannot identify them. It would be a complete different reaction if they were performing the same actions with their mask removed.
