Item # 32 of DS230 form - In what position you intend to work in US?

My answer would be 'computer engineer', the same occupation I do currently.

So can I mention 'computer engineer' or should I have any job-offer/proof in hand so as to mention it? Or is it just too inconsequential a question and answer here?

You don't have to have a job offer to answer this question, it is fine to list 'computer engineer'

During this high unemployment time in the U.S, if the consulate officer questions (which most probably will NOT happen) you on item#5 (Labor certification and qualifications for certain immigrants) on the above link, what would you do? It is always better to close all the loopholes and maximizes one's chance to get a visa.

The OP is not entering the US for the purpose of performing skilled labour, he is entering as a spouse of a US citizen. This does not apply to him. I put 'teacher' on my application and had no issues. I think this question is more for statistical data than using to exclude immigrants

canadian_wife, this is purely statistical data and every immigrant alien has the dual purpose - to stay permanently in the U.S and work in the U.S. I agree with you that 99% of the time, it should NOT be a problem.

I heard a story of a "Pharmacist" who applied in Chennai, India back in 2008 and put on hold for AP.

By the way, One reason I had in mind behind writing 'computer engineer' was my i864 which isnt so strong.. I read they consider applicant's chance of finding job, their education and all at the back of their minds.

You should be ok to put "Computer Engineer" since the U.S always short of computer engineers and teachers...

But for the financial support of you in I-864, they look for sponsor and co-sponsors other than you. If your AOS is above the poverty line, you are ok.

IMO the response to this question is not a deciding factor in approving or denying your petition. I put UNKNOWN. The issue of my intended employment or lack of once I entered the US was not mentioned at any stage of the process. Good luck!

yeah, UNKNOWN is fine. they won't look at what chances you may have to make good money with the profession you write in there to decide whether your finances are fine or not.

If you have an income or asset in India that will continue even after your immigration to the U.S, you can include them. Examples - your rental income, investment income etc. Your assets (house, cash, stock etc. - no automobiles please) in India.

You can NOT add your salary of your current job. Because it will be stopped after the immigration.
