how to find out the USCIS online status number

hey!

on the back of my earlier post with our visa we sent in a money order!

my question is (and i may sound a little ditzy just this is a lot to get ones head around)

where would i locate my uscis reference number/package number from??

do we have to check with the bank to see if money order is cashed? telephone them?

we did recieve a RFE would it be in the paper work for that???

answers appriciated!

Welcome. Once you receive the I-797 Notice of Action, it will have your case number. Then you can go here to check your status: https://egov.uscis.gov/cris/Dashboard/CaseStatus.do

The case number is actually the Receipt Number on the I-797. I've never received an RFE so I don't know what reference number they use if that's the first document they send you.
