Hello guys

I am new here. I was mostly reading for the past week, but I decided to put some questions that have I have not seen answered.

Well I have been married for more than 2 years. My husband and I met online and then in person in 2004 for a month. I returned home to the states to finish my Bachelors with the intention to go back to Egypt after I graduated, so that I could get to know him and his family well b4 we got married.

I am going to make a time-line rather than type a whole story without all the details.

2003- Met online.

2004- Met in person in Egypt. I was there a month. Got engaged.

2004-2006-Kept in contact through emails and chatting.

2007-Graduated in Dec 2006 and went to Egypt Jan 2007

2007- We dd not marry right after I arrived. Instead we stayed engaged and during that time I spent alot of time with his family to get to know to them better. During that time I also worked in Cairo (not his city). After 6 months we made our marriage ceremony* (first the religious ceremony and then the registered one)

2008-Started our marriage life. When we got pregnant I decided to go to the States to be with my mom during the rest of the pregnancy. Had our son and returned to Egypt 10 months or so later.

2009-2010-Continued our married family life in Egypt. After a year we decided to try to get a visa for him to come to the states. Instead of starting the process from Egypt I thought maybe it would be better to do it from the States.

2010- Came back to the states with my son and have been here about 5 months now. Living with my parents and reading abou the process b4 starting it.

----------------------------

I know that to Sponsor him I have to have at least 3 years of work which I don't have and I have not found a job yet, so I think I will have to ask my mom to be a cosponsor. Her income is not THAT high, but I have no other choice.

What I would like to know is if there is a big chance we will be approved even in this case (low income sponsors)?

Basically that is my main concern because I know it is required to have that AFFIDAVIT OF SUPPORT.

Also, will my son having medicaid and snap affect us getting my husband a spouse visa?

Last but not least.... taking all of the above into consideration, especially the years we have been married and our engagement length, approximately how long will it take for a Visa to be issued?

I know it depends on the persons, but I saw some people get theirs in less than 6 months and other in a year and a half!!

Hello RC and welcome to VJ!

You have found a great website with lots of information.

You will fill out an affidavit of support for your husband showing that you don't make enough to qualify to be a sole sponsor. If your mom makes 125% over the poverty line then she can be your cosponsor.

It shouldn't matter that your son qualifies for medicaid and snap. That is your son.

Basically the US just wants to make sure that your husband won't be coming over here and being placed as a burden to the US. Just remember that when you do sign the affidavit, you and your mom, you will be held financially responsible for your husband for 10 years.

Good luck with your journey to get your husband here with you!
