No, I never said that either. No one, and especially not the government, should FORCE things on people. Exactly what problem do you have with adults making CHOICES? How is threatening someone else with physical violence related to someone choosing to be a prostitute?

Please, if you cannot argue my position on the matter, then make your silly arguments with someone else

You didn't say that, Gary - you are correct. I said it.

I said it to illustrate the point that you cannot say with certainty (except on the client side) that prostitution is a matter of "consensual choice".

Instead of asking me silly questions that have no relation to the OP or even to on-topic responses to your own argument, how about addressing that?

Or do you turn a blind eye to these things because you have no moral/ethical centre?

God, Gary is SUCH a drama queen. He always manages to turn topics around so they're all about him. laughing.gif

As has been stated above, this thread was about whether to remain friends with someone who is doing something you don't agree with. We don't give a fig what you think about abortion or the legality of prostitution or CHOICE (which btw, we should all take to typing in ALL CAPS from now on as an hommage).

What about Gary's CHOICE to hijack this thread and turn it into anything he wants, up to and including his feelings on CHOICE?

Screw that - what about my CHOICE to ridicule his position that a complex issue such as prostitution can be written off as personal CHOICE without any consideration of the moral/ethical aspects of it?

I'm sorry, you are right, Gary does have that CHOICE.

Refusing to use the spellchick!

I have put you on ignore. No really, I have, but you are still ruining my enjoyment of this site. .

Yes we know you're for CHOICE. By Odin's Raven, we know!

The fact that you capitalise the word for emphasis seems somewhat ironic as it seems to me you don'treally understand what choice actually is. Where you're falling down here is in the assumption that women go into prostitution as part of a reasonable, conscious choice. I'm sure some do, but many clearly do not. Seems to me that saying that it is all a matter of choice trivialises the reality of what is a very murky and complicated issue.

In point of fact I think prostitution should be legalised and subject to regulatory oversight of some sort, if only to ensure a safe environment for the women who do it. That doesn't mean that I have to like the men who use those services - IMO they are losers and low-life scumbags.

I agree that it should be legalized. Why does any person go into any particular line of work? Why should lines of work be restricted by the government because some people don't like them? Do you think everyone working at WalMart dreamed of a career as a cashier at WalMart? How many people are coal miners because of the glamour? If an uneducated person (woman or man) enters prostitution because they have no other skills (or as a stripper, etc.) I do not celebrate the fact, I celebrate (or would if it were legal) that people have that choice to enter that business and make decent wages.

In fact, in most places it is not a matter of choice at all because some judgemental people have ruled it out. I am also in favor of good education to improve choices and have spent a LOT of my time and money to working toward a good education for my children (and now my wife also). It is one of my great joys in life that they are getting excellent educations.

I make no judgements about prostitutes or people that use them. None of my concern, I really will not trouble myself with what someone else does in their bedroom or a hotel room, or wherever. I simply do not care. If what people do is no harm to other people, who am I to care or judge? As many people would think the same as you about Gays, lesbians, blacks, Jews, ...whatever. Choose your bigotry.

What if your friend of many years told you he was Gay? What if he was married and told you that he and his wife are into S&M clubs or Swinging? Then what? It would be OK? Why? Because no money changes hands? Why would that be OK, but not that he patronizes prostitutes? I mean, I have friends that play golf. I don't. I do not play golf with my friends that play golf. I would not go to prostitutes with my friends that use prostitutes. If he told you he smoked pot would you think he is a lowlife? That is illegal also and lots of people think drug users are lowlifes...you?
