The majority of men? I don't know, do you? I did hear once that it was 1 in 3. Who can say.

Perhaps some of the people in this thread have done it - would they admit it I wonder? I doubt it.

What I find interesting in my own experience is that of my male friends, the four I know who have admitted to using prostitutes, even once, have all been British. I think this says more about American attitudes towards talking about sex in general than the propensity of the British male to use hookers, though.

No Charles it is not. I realize that prostitution will go on, regardless of my personal feelings about it. I would rather it was done in a way that supported the prostitutes than in a way that makes them targets of abuse.

Wiesbaden story.

Wiesbaden was a huge US Military base and the City Council built and operated a brothel mainly for the use of the hypocritical, universally Christan, god fearing US troops.

The car park is as big as a major Walmart and it was a tower block of about 20 stories high

We were there at the Frankfurt carpet exhibition and my 3 buddies decided to take me to the knocking shop as part of the cultural experience.

We walked in and there was a kiosk with a City Council employee dressed up like an SS Major. He welcomed us and waved towards the girls and said ' have a nice evening'

The girls all looked like Agneta Faltkog in ABBA and were sat in their undies in the window bays and reading books or doing their nails. My compadres said they would treat me and got a kitty going. I said not interested.

They said - well if you were interested, which one would you fancy - I indicated a particularly well constructed piece of flesh and of course Philip went over to her and asked how much and pointed at me.

She looked me up and down and said 50 marks.

To this day I always wonder whether that was high or low and therefore what she made of me.

My pal Mike said he had used them. They get a doctor's inspection every day and they looked pretty clean and neat to me. The deal is that they fit you with a piece of paper about a foot square - or bigger if it is Yorkshireman - the paper has a hole in it. This is for hygiene and avoidance of insects.

As we left, some really dirty grubby unshaven Algerian illegal immigrant looking guy (I just had an Arizona moment) came out of one of the rooms. I thought jeez I don't fancy following that.

So the American troops are using hookers all around the world. The Vietnam war resulted in the entire Thai sex industry being set up. Any American who looks down on this stuff should see what their god fearing, upstanding, revered christian military are doing on every continent before they get sniffy about it.

Actually, Six, I'm in a very similar situation to yours, except that my friend is still in the UK and I am obviously over here. He is a married man with two adorable daughters, a career in publishing, a towering intellect and halfway decent looks. His wife is a lovely woman and very devoted to him, and also happens to be filthy rich (I mention this as it is relevant). I knew that before he married his wife, he occasionally used prostitutes, even when he was dating his wife. However, recently his wife came into a very large family inheritance, somewhere in the region of 500k GBP. Something about that set him off and he has been blowing the money away on French prostitutes -- going over to Paris on his own and using the most expensive call girl services. He even set one up in a flat and would go weekly to see her. All this while his wife stayed back in Oxford with the two girls -- and she knew all about it but felt helpless to stop him since she made the mistake of allowing him access to the money (and she's too much of a chicken to stop him).

My friend has now gone through most of the inheritance this way, money which was supposed to be for the comfort of his family. On the one hand, I find his actions despicable. But on the other hand, he's still the same bloke I've known for 15 years, funny, charming and good fun. I also don't know what to do.

With that money I would teach him a lesson.

No reason to be shy. This is clearly a subject you feel strongly about.

What's wrong with wanting prostitution to be legalised for the protection of the women? That doesn't mean that anyone needs to agree with the concept of paying for sex - surely it's simply a case of realising that there is a bigger issue than can be defined by the personal opinion of individuals.

What do you all think about a man going out and picking up a girl at a bar or club and having sex with her that night? Is that better morally because no cash changed hands? Is it more acceptable behavior because it was free of charge sex between consenting adults and it's not illegal? Discuss.
