Prostitution isn't 'just another job' and sex, while it is a basic human impulse, is not 'just another activity' - if any of your arguments is based on these two false premises then it's going to fail.

Men that ignore the ethical dilemmas of selling sexual favours in order to be able to say it's perfectly ok to buy sex aren't worth listening to.

Refusing to use the spellchick!

I have put you on ignore. No really, I have, but you are still ruining my enjoyment of this site. .

The "Johns" do not fit a socioeconomic stereotype, but I'd surprised if they didn't do it for similar reasons.

A huge % of married men are 'single sourcing' their requirements by having a wife and they don't even know the deal is about money. 'Single sourcing' an input as anyone in business knows, is not an ideal strategy.

Possibly the majority of men are using prostitutes if we use that measure - and why not

Sorry to get all 'real world' on the happy couples but I have lived long enough and spoken with enough men and women to know that it's true in very many cases.

A lot of women are working their ticket to use a nautical term.

Now that isn't controversial is it ?

Well... that's kind of the dilemna I'm in - I've heard exactly the same reasoning from the guy who uses the prostitutes. Anyone would think it's like renting a go-kart or something.

Although "dilemna" is a bit of an exaggeration.

you might pass that on to germany, as it's legal there.

The majority of men? I don't know, do you? I did hear once that it was 1 in 3. Who can say.

Perhaps some of the people in this thread have done it - would they admit it I wonder? I doubt it.

So what? You think because something is legal it doesn't have a moral and ethical dimension? I support the legalization of prostitution, but that doesn't mean that I support the use of prostitutes or that I do not recognize the reality that prostitution is not simply 'another job'.

It's not like renting a go-kart. Having a prostitute has never been illegal in the UK and is seen differently by different people - but renting a go kart and giving it some welly whilst naked is even more unhygienic and universally frowned upon on aesthetic grounds.

If I remember correctly, Charles is pretty uncompromising in his opinion of drug users and addicts, yet apparently not "Johns" and panderers who pay women for sex.

It's interesting if you consider that one of the reasons women go into prostitution, at least in some deprived areas, is to pay for a drug addiction.
