proof of ongoing relationship

Hello everyone,

we are half way done with the K1 :)

I have a question though: what is the difference between having met in the last two years and proof of ongoing relationship?

Thanks a lot

Ter

Hi, Ter. Well lets say you haven't seen each other for six months, so you have pictures from that for proof of having met, but it's been six months. So for ongoing you'd want to show last months phone bill, and email from last week or a card she/he sent you inthe mail two weeks ago, that sort of thing.

Good luck!

And so he did what countless punk-rock songs had told him to do so many times before: he lived his life

10/07/2006 WEDDING DAY!

11/14/2006 AOS packet made it to 'the box' after being overnighted.

12/02/2006 Paul had biometrics

12/14/2006 AOS Forwarded to CSC AND AP Application approved.

01/17/2007 First touch of 2007 at CSC

01/20/2007 Touched AGAIN (also the 18th) come on...

February: Oops, RFE for a REGISTERED marriage certificate. Oops! Overnighted it.

02/28/2007 Paul gets email letting us know his GREENCARD is on it's way! It's done...for now!

03/09/2007 Paul's greencard arrives. And breathe...

We began with mailing the I-129 in on February 27, 2006 so the whole process took us approx. one year.

Good luck out there!

You just need to prove that you have met in the last 2 years to file the I129f petition. When the K1 interview is held - you may need to show the proof of continuing relationship (easily done with a few emails or letters or chat records and a new letter of intent.) Good Luck

Examples of proof of having met (needed to file for k1): pictures (with dates written on the back), hotel and credit card receipts, tickets, itineraries, visa stamps.

Examples of proof of ongoing relationship (for the interview, after USCIS approval): e-mails, phone bills showing each other's numbers, pictures, chat logs.

I only mentioned a few. Why don't you give us a list of the evidence you have so we can help you with that?

I only offer advice - not even legal. Just the plain and simple kind.

Whilst evidence of an ongoing relationship is not a requirement at the initial filing stage, it can be beneficial to those from high fraud countries to do so or if there is anything that could be a red flag that may cause issues at interview stage. This evidence should always be very carefully scrutinised especially emails and chat, to make sure there is nothing mentioned that may be construed in a different way then it is meant.

Tip:

Use Q18 to describe in some detail of how you met in the required 2 year period that established the relationship. Then the evidence you submit should support those details. Boarding passes, passport stamps, hotel/credit card receipts, rental receipts if ever lived together etc etc are primary evidence. Photos are secondary which support the primary evidence. What you should be aiming for is creating an image in the minds eye of the adjudicator. Look outside the box for evidence that shows you both in the same place at the same time. Each case is different and you should submit evidence accordingly, not just rely on the standard unofficial list.

Yes... and keep in mind that boarding passes and ticket copies are only evidence of your having a reservation and a seat on the plane... they do not prove that you have traveled. So copies of passport stamps and a copy of your frequent flyer statement (if you have one) would substantiate your travel...

A great marriage is not when the "perfect couple" comes together.

It is when an imperfect couple learns to enjoy their differences.

Although the ticket copies are only proof of a reservation, the "boarding" pass, or the remaining part given to the traveller after boarding, can be proof of flying.

You would need to supply the ticket receipt, together with the used boarding pass, to capture the applicable year.

This certainly applies to international travel anyway. On the domestic front - Southwest for example, takes the entire boarding pass away from you.

I believe JenT has a very good angle with the frequent flyer/mileage summary statement.

That item, together with the ticket and boarding pass stub, would be a slam dunk of evidence for the trip!

Thank you so much! That was a great help. Since we met so many times the last year, this won't be a problem I guess- allthough if we would have known that the K1 visa needs the proof of having met in the last two years I would have not thrown away so many things. I hate to keep stuff I don't need for sure, so most is gone :-), but I found enough
