I'm conditional resident and next year I'll be applying for permanent residency. My husband was my sponsor for my GC application. We've been having financial difficulties, and he's on unemployment benefits at the moment (I'm not working either). He was going to apply for food stamps, but they ask in the application if a spouse is alien and other information related to that. We got a little suspicious and didn't apply yet. Do they report that information to the DHS? If yes, are they going to require me to get somebody else as a sponsor next year when I apply for lifting off conditions? That would be difficult for us because we live in scarcely populated area and everyone we know are having financial difficulties....

Another question. We lost our house and my name was on the title. Will this be against me?

Hi - no and no. Sponsorship is not a factor in lifting conditions and losing the house with your name on the title is not also going to be against you.

I know this question was asked before, and if my memory serves me right, the food stamp application will not provide for the alien spouse and only for the USC spouse - I believe this was the conclusion of that thread. I think the question is on the form for them to determine if the spouse qualifies for food stamps as well.

Just make sure at this point you collect whatever evidence that shows both your names on it as possible. This is what USCIS is concerned with at the time you file for lifting conditions. Therefore, make sure you have copies of the house's expenses especially if they have both names on them (like utilities and such). Any mail also might help.

Did you remember to change address with USCIS? (I am assuming that you are no longer living in that same house). Where ever you are living now, you need to also collect evidence to show that you are still married and living together.

Thank you for your reply =). Actually we have another property where we live in a camper right now. We live off the grid and our property is in the middle of nowhere so we don't get mail here. I hope Homestead Act is proof enough?! It has both of our names on it. We get our mail to our local post office.

I changed my address online a while back and USCIS has only our mailing address. Hopefully this is not a problem. I called USCIS a while back to confirm but they refused to look up my address because I don't have a pending application now...I thought that was strange. I never got any confirmation by mail either.

Same happened to me for the change of address but it seems to have gone just fine without any problems... as long as you keep your end of the bargain, then they cannot complain.

Just keep all the documents to support your living location and try to collect additional as you go down this path....

I doubt it is going to be a problem with what you listed but just keep your eyes open for anything that you can add to your list...

good luck!
